WWU On the Hunt is a new charity show highlighting the origins of fox hunting. The proceeds from this show will directly support the hunts listed below. These proceeds will help these hunts continue to grow and care for their beloved hounds and members. By participating in this show, you will have the opportunity to see the versatility that hunt horses and riders require to thrive in the hunt field–all while giving it your best shot!
William Woods University was one of the first universities in the United States to offer a four-year degree in equestrian science. William Woods has been the name to know in equestrian studies since 1924. The William Woods University programs combine a strong theoretical foundation with the riding, teaching, training, and business skills you will need for a successful equine career as a trainer, teacher, or manager in the booming $112 billion equine industry. Our large, modern equestrian complex will provide you with an excellent educational experience in both classroom and field. Our traditional approach to horsemanship involves the four disciplines of Dressage, Hunter/Jumper, Saddle Seat, and Western.
About the Event
Hunter/Jumper Club is a student run organization that organizes, funds, and runs the on-campus shows here at William Woods University. Also considered the show team, these students work hard to produce one horse show every semester. The club not only consists of students who are majoring in equestrian science/administration, but promotes the participation of all those with an interest in showing and show management. With the help of the club sponsor, Alanna Bielawski, the William Woods University Hunter/Jumper Club presents the 2026 WWU On the Hunt.

Pairs Class: A team of 2 riders will do a hunter course and a flat class. For the jumping portion, the riders will switch leaders halfway through the course and jump the last jump tandem. For the flat class, riders will ride side by side and ask to walk, trot, canter, and change direction.
Gambler’s Choice: Each jump will be given a point value, and every time a horse clears a jump, they receive the points assigned to that fence. Each jump may be jumped twice for points. Points will not be counted beyond the second jump per fence. Riders may take any path they choose and jump the jumps in any order they choose. There will be a time limit of 90 seconds, at the end of which the rider may opt to take the ‘Joker’ jump. The ‘Joker’ jump will add to the score if cleared and take away from the score if not cleared (knock down or refusal). The horse and rider combination with the most points wins and will be awarded half the total entry fees.
Don’t Spill Your Flask: In this class, you will hold a cup of water. The person who spills the least wins. There will be an over fences class and a flat class.
Magazine Race: Riders will receive a number, ride down, dismount their horse, and then retrieve the corresponding page number. Riders will then remount their horse and come back. Fastest time wins. There will also be an over-fences version, where the horse and rider must jump a fence both on the way down and back.
Team Relay: Riders will compete as a team of 4. Riders will ride down to a cone at the end of the arena. They will then dismount and run their horse back in hand. The next person can go once the rider before them returns. Fastest time wins.
Best Dressed: Riders will ride out on the rail in formal hunt attire. Riders will be asked to do a series of tasks. For example, walk, trot, canter, hand gallop, change of directions, or drop their stirrups. Riders will be judged on their formal turnout and ability to perform the task asked of them. For the Lead Line class, it will only be walk, trot, and a change of direction.
Trail Class: Riders and horses will go through an obstacle course. They will be asked to perform different tasks, all while being timed. The fastest time wins! Rider and horse may be asked to open a gate, go over poles and bridges, potentially crack a hunt whip, and dismount and remount to pick something up off the ground.
