The U.S. will field a team of 12 riders – six 3-gaited and six 5-gaited – at the World Cup competition, to be held June 29 through July 2, 2026, in Shelbyville, KY. But to make the team, 30 riders will have to give it all they’ve got – and then some.
You see, these riders will compete on horses they’ve never ridden before – horses in the William Woods herd. And amazing though these horses are – to compete for a world championship on a horse you’re only allowed 10 minutes to warm up on, is an extraordinarily challenging thing. One could argue that this is the ultimate test of an equestrian’s skills.
And for those that prevail? The opportunity of a lifetime. The opportunity to compete in the International Saddle Seat World Cup.

From there, you’ll get to watch the competition unfold – which begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. on November 22.
