The law enforcement and legal studies area of emphasis within the criminal justice bachelors degree at William Woods University was created so that students interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement (or any legal field) may have a clear education path to pursuing this goal, combined with the well-rounded curriculum of William Woods.
This program includes an additional major in Political/Legal Studies and the LETI police academy.
Our philosophy is that the most effective law enforcement officer is one who fully understands the law they are being asked to enforce and as such minimizes the margin of error, which is why we partner with the department of political and legal studies.
Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI)
This area of emphasis also includes a unique practical training course not offered by many other university criminal justice programs. We have partnered with the Law Enforcement Training Institute (LETI) of Columbia, Missouri where students can apply for and attend a 600-hour POST certified full-time police officer training academy, which provides students with a state certification to become a police officer. Students will typically complete this training in the summer of their junior year.
