Distinguished Professor
Elizabeth Wilson
assistant professor
and director of the
social work program,
was this year’s
recipient of the
Louis D. Beaumont
Dad’s Association
Professor Award
for Excellence in
Teaching. Wilson, who is in her second year of
teaching at WWU, was nominated by the senior
social work students.
Students have been given a new opportunity for
hands-on-learning with the addition of a greenhouse
to the biology department. The greenhouse enhances
student learning, allowing for a more in-depth study of
botany, in addition to providing a laboratory for
experimenting with plant growth and genetics.

“In Gratitude,”
the bronze relief
sculpture focuses
on the themes of
thankfulness and
community. The
project was funded
by the Percent for Art program, established by the
Columbia City Council in 1997 to increase the
amount of public art in that city.
