Hail to the Chief
Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett
has been named 2009 Alumnus of the Year
by the University of Mississippi School of Education. She is a rarity
among university and college presidents. According to the Chronicle
of Higher Education, only 8 percent of college presidents have held
the position for 16-20 years. Barnett is beginning her 20th year. In
addition, only 23 percent of colleges and universities have a female
president. Barnett came to William Woods in 1973 as chair of the
Department of Business and Economics and has held various
roles at WWU over the years.
Authors Among Us
It has been a publishing year at WWU, with three books produced.
Gary Mullen
, equestrian studies division chair, wrote “Amazing Horse
Facts and Trivia,” a 200-page book that is being marketed internationally.
In addition, multiple horses and equestrian studies students from William
Woods donned their show attire and gathered their grooming supplies to
pose for the cameras during the production of “Knack Grooming Horses: A
Complete Illustrated Guide,” published by Globe Pequot Press.
Two retired WWU professors united their talents to publish the third edition
of “The Red Lights of Hell,” a book of 10 short stories based on the life
experiences of
Dr. Florence Phyfer Krause
, professor emeritus of English.
Joining Krause as publisher was
Dr. Clarence Wolfshohl
, another professor
emeritus of English and owner of Timberline Press, a small but
well-respected publisher based in Fulton, Mo.
