Four Honored for Contributions to WWU
Four individuals were honored during Alumni Weekend
April 18-20 for their service to William Woods University.
Dr. Victoria Gunn, Jefferson City, Mo., received the Alumni
Award of Distinction, designed to honor alumni who have
achieved recognition in their chosen feld. She graduated
summa cum laude in biology from William Woods, and
went on to become a dermatologist.
She is a member of the WWU Board of Trustees and has
given the convocation address at WWU. Gunn is active in
her community, offering health care clinics and serving on
multiple medical boards.
Leslie Verslues, Jefferson City, Mo., was awarded the Green
Owl Award, designed to recognize an alumnus who has
given years of service to the university. After graduating from
WWU, she worked for eight years in admissions, including
four as director. She went on to become a regional account
manager for Cingular Wireless. She currently works for the
Sallie Mae Foundation.
Verslues is a member and past secretary of the National
Alumni Board and has helped coordinate several alumni
events. She is also active in her community and her family
is the 2008 March of Dimes Ambassador Family.
Marsha Wardlaw Clevenger, Little Rock, Ark., received the
Outstanding Service Award for her many years of commitment
and support to the university. She worked as senior law clerk
for U.S. district judges for 22 years and now works for the
U.S. Attorney’s Offce for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
She currently serves as Project Safe Childhood Coordinator,
protecting children from online predators.
John Schiffman, St. Louis, Mo., was named Honorary
Alumnus for his distinguished personal achievement and
outstanding community service. A successful businessman,
he was comptroller for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in
St. Louis. He was the major donor for the Stone-Campbell
Apartments and a contributor to the Weitzman Model
Courtroom project.
