Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that masterful teaching is one of the most challenging and rewarding tasks in our society. I view my role as an instructional leader and scholar-practitioner in the William Woods University Educator Preparation Program to be that of a facilitator or lead-learner. I approach this task using guidance from constructivist and social learning theory, which highlights the value of culture, collaboration, and inquiry in the learning environment. Classroom technologies are redefining how teachers and students learn, create, and collaborate with each other. In my teaching, I exploring issues surrounding digital pedagogy and the challenges of technology management in schools. I have worked to create engaging learning environments as a teacher, principal, and facilitator of professional development, each time asking myself “If they weren’t required to be here, would I be teaching to an empty room?” (Burgess, 2012).
