Job Title: Assistant Director of Student Financial Services

Department: Student Financial Services

Reports To: Director of Student Financial Services

Job Type: This is a full time, non exempt position.

General Description:

The Assistant Director of Student Financial Services oversees the administration of financial aid and bursar functions while maintaining a current knowledge of institutional, state, and federal regulations and rules to ensure the integrity and compliance of the Office of Student Financial Services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ø  Act as a primary point of contact and provide financial services for both current and prospective students and families across all modalities offered

    Ø  Assist in developing, writing, and editing various brochures, information materials, flyers, letters, forms and oral presentations

    Ø  Promote a positive image of Financial Services Office by making presentations to inform the public about the various financial aid programs and associated application processes

    Ø  Assist in maintaining all student financial files by reviewing, determining and calculating all aid eligibility. Oversee record status progression, including the successful packaging, origination, disbursement, and refund of funds

    Ø  Work with Director in the development and implementation of office policies and procedures to ensure that all office practices are compliant

    Ø  Liaison with other offices to ensure open communication between departments.

    Ø  Assist with supervisory duties with staff evaluations and performs duties of Director in Director’s absence

    Ø  Perform functional job duties of a designated position in the Student Financial Services Office as required

Position Requirements:

Education & Experience: Professional experience in higher education financial services preferred.  A bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A working knowledge of Student Financial Services
  • Must be able to accomplish multiple, on-going and unrelated time-critical tasks
  • Set priorities and deadlines, ensure projects are completed and respond to questions/problems in a timely manner, organize resources to meet program goals, reason logically, evaluate complex data, and recommend effective courses of actions
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse populations and in conjunction with other professionals, as well as knowledge of counseling/advising techniques and standards and practices of student services within institutions of higher education
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with students in solving problems and planning a strategy for success in achieving the academic goals
  • Knowledge of federal, state and institutional financial aid regulations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and financial aid ethics.

Work Schedule:

This is a non-exempt position, 40+ hours per week, 12-month position. Occasional evening or weekend hours during special events on campus is required.
