PRL221 Legal Ethics in the Law Office

An introduction to basic ethical theories including readings from moral philosophers and the application of those philosophies to modern moral and legal issues including euthanasia, the death penalty, and abortion. An overview of Legal Ethics including the Canons of Ethics, the Code of Professional Responsibility and ethical guidelines for both lawyers and non-lawyers in the American legal system. Rules, statutes and case law governing Unauthorized Practice of Law will be covered. Students will analyze, evaluate, articulate and defend positions on ethical questions that have an impact in the legal field. 3 Credits
