ITP450 Senior Capstone

This course is the capstone to the major and prepares students to enter the workplace. Students will demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to enter the ASL English Interpreting profession as a general practitioner. Students will investigate current issues facing the field, career development, and ethical decision making in real-life situations. This course is conducted in seminar format where students will discuss issues such as: the interpreter as cross-cultural mediator in a bilingual/bicultural context, stress management (physical and cognitive), time-management, business practices, legal statutes and liability, confidentiality, certification and quality assurance, accountability, the minority status of American Sign Language and Deaf Culture, oppression and empowerment of the Deaf Community.

Prerequisites: ITP380 Need permisson from Department Chair
