Advancement Officer and Director of Athletics
Jason Vittone began working at William Woods in January 2007, when he was named sports information director and Champions of Character coordinator. He was named the assistant director of intercollegiate athletics in the summer of 2011. Vittone was promoted to director of intercollegiate athletics in September 2011. In Fall 2017, Jason became a part of the University Advancement team, where he acts as an advancement officer specializing in the athletics department.
Vittone came to William Woods after a brief stint at Central Methodist University in Fayette, Mo. He worked in the admissions department for the NAIA institution.
Vittone earned his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary physical education, with minors in history and coaching. He completed a Master of Science degree in health, physical education and recreation at Emporia State University, Emporia, Kan.
Since becoming the director of intercollegiate athletics at William Woods, Vittone initiated a corporate sponsorship fundraising program. To date, 20-plus companies have joined the program. Funds raised from this initiative have been used to improve team travel, equipment, and facilities.
During the fall of 2012, Vittone announced the creation of the William Woods University Athletic Hall of Fame. Its first class was inducted in the spring of 2013. “The task of assembling the first class was challenging,” said Vittone. “The inaugural class has set the standard of excellence for others to follow.”
Vittone was named the 2013-14 and the 2015-16 American Midwest Conference Athletic Director of the Year. In the spring of 2017, Vittone was inducted into the Emporia State University Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Hall of Honor.
Vittone and his wife, Kirstie, live in Mexico, Mo., and have two sons, A.J. and Dominick. His wife works at Peak Performance/Sport and Spine in Centralia, Mo.
