Incoming Freshman Scholarships and Awards

Whether you are a scholar, a legacy, an actor or an athlete (or all of the above!), William Woods University has freshmen scholarships for just about every passion and excellence. Read about our various scholarships below — some are awarded automatically upon acceptance and some require an application. Please, do not hesitate to give us a call with any questions you may have.

The LEAD Award Program

Lead Award

Increase your scholarship with the LEAD Award of $5,000 for residential students and $2,500 for commuter students per year!

Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship

Application deadline is May 1st

Up to $2,500 per academic year


  • Citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • Enrollment at William Woods University the first semester after high school graduation
  • Member of an ethnic minority group typically under-represented in higher education degree programs
  • First preference given to students who are residents of the state of Missouri
  • Accepted to William Woods University
  • Completed application
  • 1 page essay submitted with application

Application deadline is March 15th

Full Tuition, Room and Board for four years if you maintain a GPA of 3.5 (1 recipient per year)


  • ACT of 31 or SAT 1420
  • Minimum GPA of 3.75
  • Phone interview
  • Completed application
  • 1-2 page essay: Answering this question: If you could have a dinner conversation with three people, living or dead, who would they be and why?
  • Successful completion of the LEAD program
  • Requires a minimum GPA of 3.5 for renewal 

Honors Program

Application deadline is March 15th

$1,000 Annual Housing Award


  • Minimum ACT of 26 or SAT 1240-1270
  • Minimum GPA 3.2
  • Submit a resume
  • Interview before a committee
  • Submit an essay with minimum of 250 words
  • Requires a minimum GPA of 3.25 for renewal
