Pre-Athletic Training Concentration

Pre-Athletic Training Concentration

A career with potential for success and satisfaction.

Athletic training is a growing field. Median salaries for professionals in the industry are nearly $50,000 per year. Athletic trainers are estimated to experience a 16% job growth by the year 2029 — much faster than the national average (bls.gov). A solid pre-AT foundation is the first step to pursuing a range of career opportunities in this high growth field – from all levels of athletics to health care institutions, dance and performance, and corporate health and wellness.

William Woods’ curriculum is carefully designed to prepare students for a number of graduate-level health care programs including a Master of Athletic Training (MAT). Following a prescribed four-year plan, Pre-AT students develop a strong foundation through interesting exercise science, anatomy, and physiology coursework. From there, they delve deeper into advanced courses to develop a research-driven understanding of the human body.

Alumni Perspectives

My professors in the athletic training program were professional and personable. They took the time to get to know me and my learning style. They have the real-life experience to learn from, in addition to the book knowledge. They have inspired me to continue my education to attain my master's degree while working as a graduate assistant for Peak Performance Sports Medicine and Physical Therapy in Columbia, Missouri. I hope to one day inspire and encourage athletic training students in the same manner.

— Myra Belshe, ATC, LAT, Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training

It's a lot easier to go on job interviews when the entire athletic training faculty is rooting for you, and to do well on those interviews with the hands-on experience and unique education you receive at William Woods. You're not just getting a good education; you're getting a running start on your future with a lot of support, guidance and encouragement from professionals who have already been there.

— Kathryn Buehrle, Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training
