"Be The Change You Want To See In The World"

~Ghandi

Students for Social Work (SFS), is a clubdedicated to helping others on the WWU campus and surrounding communities. The organization is comprised of Social Work majors, minors and students from any academic area who are interested in addressing various social issues through education and direct service. Community direct service is realized through development and implementation of specific projects for local not for profit organizations such as, the Coalition for Domestic Violence, SERVE, Foster Parent's Association, and others. WWU awareness and education is realized through sponsorship of LEAD events and sponsorship of projects in conjunction with national awareness campaigns.

We will be hosting a LEAD event. The event will be a dinner and a movie. The movie will be, "The Burning Bed," which discusses a domestic violence case. The dinner will be provided by Tucker through a meal exchange. We are hoping to hold this event in Burton 006 around 7pm. I will be asking for some volunteers to help. I will keep you all updated.

We are also looking into going to Mo Girls Town to do some fun holiday themed activities with them once a month. Mallory, please let me know when you talk to them and see what they would like to do.

November...

We will be hosting a second LEAD event. The event will be a clothing/accessories drive. Students must bring in at least one item to receive a point. Not sure yet where to have this event, I'll have to see what rooms are available this month. I'll keep you updated.

We will be adopting a family this Christmas. Elizabeth, could you let me know where I can find a family for this project.

The next meeting, in a few weeks, will be during lunch on a Monday. I will let you know where and when the meeting will be held.

Thanks to all who are helping put these events and projects together!
