Frequently Asked Questions

Here is a list of the most frequently asked questions at the helpdesk. If you have a question on a topic not covered in this section, please call the Helpdesk at 573-592-4224 (on campus ext. 4224) or 1-800-995-3159 between 8am and 7pm Monday through Thursday, and 8am to 4:30pm on Friday and we'll be glad to assist you.

  • How do I change/reset my account password?

Hit Ctrl + Alt + Del and click on Change Password. If you are unable to do so, call the Helpdesk. Please, keep in mind that due to security regulations we cannot release any of this information via email.

 

  • What kind of password is acceptable?

Passwords should be something different than it was before.

These are not acceptable passwords:

• First name

• Last name

• Student ID Number (series of 6 numbers)

Students should be encouraged not to use the name of a sport as a password. (i.e. baseball, basketball, volleyball)

 

  • How do I get my OWLnet username & password?

Call the Helpdesk. Please, keep in mind that due to security regulations we cannot release any of this information via email.

 

  • How do I get an unofficial transcript from OWLnet?

Log in your OWLnet account. Click on Academics. Click on Students. Click on Unofficial transcript. Once you’ve opened it – there is a Printer Friendly button on the top right corner that you can use if you desire to print a copy of your unofficial transcript.

 

  • How can I use Email through OWLnet?

     Click here and follow the instructions.

 

  • How do I get to use my gaming system?

You have to fill out the Online Gaming Request Form located under Student Support on the Helpdesk section of WWU’s website (or click here). You have to request access for a gaming system (Xbox, Playstation, etc.) in order to be connected to the internet. Make sure you have the model & make of your gaming device available as well as the MAC address.

 

  • How do I update Symantec Antivirus?

  • How do I sort my email or create a new folder in Outlook Express?

1. Have the Outlook Express window visible

2. Click on "Inbox"

3. Click the menu command "File"

4. Hover over "New"

5. Click "Folder…"

6. In the box with the blinking cursor labeled "Folder Name" type in a name for     your new  folder (it can be anything you choose).

6. Click "OK"

7. Now you will have a folder that you can click and drag emails into. This  

    allows you to sort your emails so that you can save them and not clutter up

    your Inbox.

 

  • What is Spam?

This is junk email. Just like the junk snail mail that clutters up your regular mail box, this will clutter up your email box. In other words, mass mailings you didn't ask for and don't want. NEVER reply to a spammer or attempt to use a link that they claim will remove you from their list. This just proves to them that there's a real person at this address and you'll get more spam!

 

  • What does the Printing Balance mean when I log into a classroom or lab computer?

Each time a student prints to a lab printer they are charged 5 cents for black and white copies and 10 cents for a color copy. At the beginning of the Fall semester, each student is given $5.00 on their account. Once they reach a balance of 0, they cannot print anymore. Balances carry over from Fall to Spring semester, but not Spring to Fall. Students can check their printing balance by clicking on the black $$ on the desktop of the lab/classroom computer.

 

  • Where can I add more money to my printing account?

The Cashier’s window can add $$ to your printing account. You can call them at (573) 592 4255.

 

  • How do I connect to the Internet from the residence Halls?
