William Woods University Academic Service-Learning Goals
Academic Service-Learning Goals:
  • Develop policy and program recommendations for the University that support academic service-learning and civic engagement.
  • Develop an environment of collegial participation among students, faculty, and the community.
  • Increase the number of courses utilizing academic service-learning.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Enhance student learning by joining theory with experience and thought with action.
  • Present opportunities for students to take greater responsibility for their learning.
  • Provide structured opportunities for students to reflect critically on their service experience.
  • Better prepare students for their careers/continuing education.

Community Interaction:
  • Create lasting partnerships with community agencies/organizations.
  • Fill unmet needs in the community through direct and meaningful service.
  • Increase student participation in the community.
  • Increase William Woods University’s interaction with the community.

Student Civic Engagement:
  • Assist students to see the relevance of the academic subject to the “real” world.
  • Expose students to social inequality and injustice, while empowering them to make a difference.
  • Encourage students to acknowledge and accept themselves as members of both local and worldwide communities.
