WWU to Sponsor Philosophy, Religion Lecture Series
|4/7/2004||Mary Ann Beahon|
Weddle will speak at 7 p.m. April 13, 14 and 15. The Tuesday and Wednesday sessions will be in the Library Auditorium, and the Thursday session will be in Dulany Auditorium. The lecture series is free and open to the public.
Titled “Can God be Surprised? Reflections on Creation, Time and Evil,” Weddle’s lectures will explore different aspects of “process theology.”
In each lecture, he will pose one question about God, examine traditional answers, then consider objections to those answers, and finally, explore a response derived from process theism. The questions are:
· God and Creation: How did God make the world?
· God and Time: What does God know about the future?< P> · God and Evil: How can God permit horrific suffering?
Weddle, who has both an M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University, has been professor and chair of religion at Colorado College for three years. Previously, he taught at Cornell College, the University of California at Santa Barbara and Westmont College.
The WWU Philosophy Club is sponsoring the Philosophy and Religion Lecture Series. Amanda Bethmann, a senior from St. Charles, is the president, and the Rev. C.W. Dawson Jr. is the faculty sponsor.
