‘Destination Woods’ theme of William Woods Alumni Weekend

Many William Woods University alumni will journey to Fulton April 19-21 for Alumni Weekend, with “Destination Woods” in mind.
As every year, the weekend is packed with activities for recent and not-so-recent alumni. An addition this year is Tap Room at The Woods, a take-off on a favorite downtown hang-out. It will feature typical grill food and drinks 7-10:30 p.m. Friday in Aldridge Lounge.
Also new this year is Inaugural Alumni Art Show and the inaugural induction of the WWU Athletics Hall of Fame.
Alumni awards will be presented to Romaine Seguin ’82 of Miami, Fla., Alumni Award of Distinction; Jim Yankee MBA ’05 of Columbia, Mo., Graduate College Alumni Award; A.W. (Bud) Doepke of Bucyrus, Kan., Honorary Alumnus; and Dr. John DeSpain of Columbia, Mo., Order of the Owl.
In addition, the late Helen Stephens ’37, Olympic track star; Roger Ternes, former coach and athletic director; and Lana Unnewehr Brooks ’90, all-time leading scorer for the women’s basketball team, will be inducted in the Inaugural WWU Athletics Hall of Fame.
All alumni of William Woods are welcome to attend and celebrate with this year’s recognized reunion classes of 1963, 1973, 1983, 1988, 1993 and 2003.
Activities begin Friday at 10 a.m. with a WWU and Westminster College Golf Tournament at Tanglewood Golf Course. Check in for the tournament begins at 9 a.m., with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. At a cost of $50 per player, the tournament is open to all alumni, spouses and friends.
Registration for Alumni Weekend will be held 1-5 p.m. Friday in McNutt Campus Center and 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday in the Nielsen Room of Tucker Dining Hall. Complimentary coffee will be served at registration. Campus tours will depart from McNutt every half hour 2-4 p.m.
A reception for William Woods and Westminster alumni will be held 5 -7 p.m. Friday at Westminster’s Backer Dining Hall. A President’s Club cocktail dinner reception, by invitation only, will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts.
Highlights for Saturday include the alumni awards ceremony and the inaugural Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony 10-11 a.m. in Dulany Auditorium. A class reunion lunch will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Tucker Dining Hall and will include a presidential update. Following the luncheon, reunion class pictures will be taken.
Campus tours will be offered 1-2 p.m., leaving every half hour from Tucker Dining Hall. Greek houses will be open for tours 1-3 p.m. A reception for the alumni art show is scheduled 1:30-2:30 p.m. in the Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts.
Wine and beer tasting with music will be available 3-6 p.m., followed by a design-your-own pasta dinner 6-7:30 p.m., both on the Aldridge Patio. An Athletics Hall of Fame reception will be held 5-6 p.m. at the Helen Stephens Sports Complex.
On Sunday a brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to noon at Tucker Dining Hall..
Several other activities will take place throughout the weekend, including:
- A dressage horse show 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Bettina Bancroft Equestrian Center
- An Owls baseball game vs. Lyon College at noon Friday, noon and 3 p.m. Saturday and noon Sunday at Backer Sports Complex.
- An Owls men’s soccer match vs. Central Methodist University at 2 p.m. Saturday at Firley Soccer Field.
- Inaugural Alumni Art Show 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and 1 -4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday the Mildred Cox Gallery of the at Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts.
