William Woods University hosts the Missouri Contemporary Ballet Thursday (Jan. 24), but don’t expect to see moves from Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty or the Nutcracker.
Instead, anticipate exciting, edgy, hip entertainment, which MCB creates to make the experience of live dance an artful and joyful event for all ages.
Part of the President’s Concert and Lecture Series, the troupe’s performance at WWU, which is free and open to the public, will be held at 7 p.m. in Cutlip Auditorium of the McNutt Campus Center.
The Missouri Contemporary Ballet is a not-for-profit professional dance company committed to creating dance entertainment through the art of contemporary ballet. Working out of Columbia, Mo., the company is now in its seventh season.
Under the direction of Las Vegas native Karen Mareck Grundy, MCB pushes creative boundaries, undertaking contemporary dance projects that are inventive and edgy, whimsical and sensual.
Not confined to mid-Missouri appearances, the troupe performs at New York's Lincoln Center Jan. 11 as part of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters (APAP). After numerous other shows, the dancers will be off to Suncheon, South Korea, Columbia's sister city, in July.
WWU’s President’s Concert and Lecture Series brings speakers and top entertainment to campus for the enjoyment of students and the community. For more information on the performance, contact Brenda Foster at firstname.lastname@example.org.
