Members of Collegiate DECA at William Woods University recently were invited to participate in a first-ever competition in which the students worked with real companies solving current issues.

The invitation-only event was sponsored by the University of Central Missouri’s DECA chapter.  Several states were included, but the number of student participants was limited to allow for more experience with real-life issues.

Cruz Buchanan and Joe Parenteau both placed second in the competition.

Buchanan, Igor Dos Santos, Nate Lamberson, Chris Martin, J.P. Parra and Alex Stear
traveled to the Sprint Campus in Overland Park, Kan., where they were given a tour of the campus, an exam and worked with their marketing specialist to solve a current marketing issue regarding cell phones.

Parenteau traveled to BKD in Kansas City (one of the largest accounting firms in the U.S.).  There he toured the facilities, was given an exam and worked with accounting specialists.

“This experience took our Collegiate DECA students to yet another step forward toward the quality education that students receive at William Woods University,” said Linda Duke, assistant professor of marketing and business and WWU Collegiate DECA adviser.
