FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (573) 592-1127

William Woods University will host its annual Equestrian Academic Showcase this weekend, Nov. 2-4. The showcase gives potential students and parents an inside look at the equestrian division.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday and campus events will remain open to visitors throughout the weekend.

During the showcase, potential students and parents will have the opportunity to visit with faculty members, tour the stables and learn more about the equestrian program.

They will also have the privilege of watching the Parade of Disciplines—a WWU tradition. During the parade, WWU students will demonstrate all four disciplines offered at William Woods. The parade will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the UPHA Arena.

Showcase weekend will also feature two clinics. Steve and Tiffany Wheeler will host a saddle seat clinic. Together, they have trained numerous world and national champions. They were also the winners of the 2010 UPHA Young Trainer of the Year award. Tiffany Wheeler is a WWU graduate.

TaylorMade clinicians Melanie Smith Taylor and Mindy Bower will be working with hunter/jumpers. Taylor is one of only two riders ever to win the “Triple Crown of Show Jumping.” She also was part of the United States Equestrian Team’s Gold Medal team at the 1979 Pan American Games in Puerto Rico. Bower is a third-generation horsewoman who is known for her success in transforming groundwork into success in the saddle.

Prospective students will also learn about WWU’s three equestrian majors, which include the country’s first bachelor’s degree in equestrian science (added in 1972), an equestrian administration degree (added in 1992) and the newly added equine general studies major.

The new major was added just last year and offers students the option to study equestrian art, leadership, media, therapeutic riding or equestrian studies.

Prospective students interested in attending the 2012 Equestrian Academic Showcase should contact the Admissions Office at Admissions@WilliamWoods.edu or by calling 573-642-2251 ext. 4221.
