Imagine coming in from the cold to a
room with lit candles, black table cloths and fresh flowers. You walk through
an archway entwined with ivy and lit with lights; young women in red dresses
eager to make a difference, and a spirit of hope in the air.You are at the third annual Alpha Phi Red Dress Gala at William Woods University.
A dress to die for... a cause to live for. Once again the women of Alpha Phi embraced this theme for their Red Dress Gala Oct. 13. The night was a raging success, hosting more than 60 guests, and raising more than $1,500 for women's heart health.
The Delta Chi chapter took their international philanthropy to heart when putting together this event. The night included dinner, a silent auction and Christina Thompson, one of the top 10 national spokeswomen for Go Red for Women with the American Heart Association.
Alpha Phi's philanthropy is the Alpha Phi Foundation supporting Women's Heart Health. Each year they support and fund programs and research that study heart disease in women, especially its symptoms, treatment and prevention.
Education and awareness is also a primary focus for Alpha Phis everywhere; for that reason the evening included information on each table and Thompson's speech. Today heart disease is the
number one killer of women, killing one in three.Guests included community members, such as LeRoy Benton, mayor of Fulton, and his wife, Frances; faculty and staff; and numerous parents in town for Fall Family Weekend.
"I definitely enjoyed attending Alpha Phi's Red Dress Gala," Mayor Benton said. "I thought the event was well organized and all of the attendees seemed to be enjoying themselves with the added advantage of benefiting Women's Heart Health."
