Fulton Colleges Fund receives lead gift from Moser’s Supermarkets

The Fulton Colleges Fund Board of Associates has awarded a total of $48,000 in scholarships to Callaway County students attending either Westminster College or William Woods University this fall.
 
Soon the drive to raise funds for 2013 scholarships will kick off. Moser’s Supermarkets of Fulton is showing its support for the Fulton Colleges Fund Drive by pledging a $2,500 lead gift, setting the stage for a successful drive.
 
“I am very pleased to offer up the lead gift for the 2012 Fulton Colleges Fund Drive. The students, educators and staff contribute greatly to our local community,” said Roger Moser of Moser’s Supermarkets.
 
Organizers will begin the 2012 Fulton Colleges Fund Drive Tuesday (Aug. 7), with an 8 a.m. breakfast for volunteers in Aldridge Recreation Center at William Woods University. Volunteers will report their results Aug. 10 at a noon lunch in Coulter Science Center, Room 329, on the Westminster College campus. 
 
Volunteers will call on area businesses and individuals during the week. Their goal is to raise as much money as possible to benefit Callaway County students who attend Westminster or William Woods.
 
“As a community, our support for the Fulton Colleges Fund is vital and enables the FCF to continue to provide scholarships to local students attending William Woods and Westminster. An investment from local businesses in education is needed now to make this year’s drive a huge success,” Moser said.
 
For 50 years, the Board of Associates has connected Callaway County with William Woods University and Westminster College by providing hundreds of scholarships that have enabled local students to attend the two institutions.
 
“Donors to the Fulton Colleges Fund Drive realize the value of the quality education Westminster College and William Woods University provides to their students,” Matt Gowin, Fulton Colleges Board of Associates president, said.  “For nearly 50 years, donors have been helping Callaway County high school students attend college locally at one of our valued institutions.”
 
He added, “The Fulton Colleges Board of Associates greatly appreciates any support of our efforts to provide important financial assistance to these local high school students who choose to pursue higher education in our community,”
 
In a continuing effort to provide assistance to students in Callaway County, the Board of Associates has increased the number of scholarships it provides. This year they offered 22 scholarships, totaling $48,000.     
 
The Fulton Board of Associates has sponsored an annual fund drive to secure local support for Westminster and William Woods since the fall of 1967. Each year more than 90 volunteers lend their time, calling on businesses and individual contributors.
 
Very few communities of comparable size show this type of dedication and commitment.  The money raised is divided equally between the two institutions, and the gifts help fund scholarships for outstanding students in Callaway County.
 
Students receiving scholarships at William Woods University for 2012-2013 are: Paige Baysinger, Danielle Beaver, Collin Brinker, Jenna Brown, Brittany Clingman, Kayla English, Ashley Gross, Jacob Harrison, Stormey Hug, Symone Hurd, Adam Smith and Kayle Weghorst.
 
Scholarship recipients for Westminster College are: Jake Abbott, Morgan Grown Emmons, Kirsten Dungan, Joe Garwood, John Johnson, James Jones, Jacob Matthews, Andrew Rodruguez, Shelby Tarrants, Dillon Williams and Mariah Zahnter.
 
Contributions of any amount are welcome for the Fulton Colleges Fund. In addition anyone can join the Fulton Colleges Board of Associates. Dues are $40 for a single membership or $75 per couple. To be considered for the scholarships in coming years, Callaway County students must be accepted to Westminster College or William Woods University and meet all appropriate scholarship criteria.
