Angela Nelson of Holts Summit, Mo., received the Graduate College Award during William Woods University’s Alumni Weekend. The award was created last year to honor successful individuals who completed their degrees through William Woods. This year, two Graduate College Awards are presented.
Nelson graduated from the undergraduate evening program for working adults in 2006, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in management. Wanting to continue her education, she completed her Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in 2008.
Employed by the Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration since 2002, Nelson currently serves as the director of consumer affairs. She oversees the insurance needs of Missouri customers. Under her leadership, the division has provided guidance and resources to those affected by the flooding in southeast Missouri, the Good Friday storms and the Joplin tornado.
As an active member of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, she has served as the chair of transparency and readability working group.
She continues to provide information to the public through multiple public service videos on YouTube. Insurance-related topics are covered in the videos, such as flood insurance, autism insurance, the consumer complaint index and the consumer affairs division.
