Fulton resident wins Helen Stephens Award

Jacob Harrison of Fulton, Mo., was awarded the Helen Stephens Award at William Woods University's academic convocation and co-curricular honors banquet last month.

The Helen Stephens Award is presented annually to an outstanding junior student-athlete who has achieved excellence both in the classroom and in the area of intercollegiate athletics. 

This award is presented to a student who demonstrates the talent, discipline and desire that best describes the legacy of William Woods alumnae and Olympic champion, Helen Stephens.

The Helen Stephens Award is selected by the athletic department and is regarded as the department's highest honor.
 
Harrison is a three-time Academic All-American Midwest Conference recipient, an NAIA Scholar Athlete and a member of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.

He was the 2011 Runner-Up for AMC Player of the Year, a 2011 First Team All-AMC selection, and a 2011 AMC Gold Glove winner. He was also a member of the 2011 AMC baseball tournament championship team. 
 
Harrison is an exercise science major and has received Academic All-AMC all three years playing for William Woods. This season, he is a 2012 First Team All-AMC and 2012 Gold Glove Team selection.
