WWU students participate in American Royal Horse Show

Nine students recently returned from representing William Woods University in the annual United Professional Horsemen’s Association (UPHA) American Royal Horse Show in Kansas City, Mo.

One of the longest running traditions in Kansas City, the American Royal is held from October through November and includes horse shows, livestock competitions, rodeos, concerts, a parade and a BBQ competition.
 
Corie Jean Allen of Kankakee, Ill., and Harlem’s Irish Dancer won the MO/KS Three-Gaited Show Pleasure Adult class and were Grand Champions of the MO/KS Three-Gaited Show Pleasure Championship class.
 
Shannon Garcia of Los Lunas, N.M., and Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves were Champions of the MO/KS Amateur/Jr. Exhibitor Five-Gaited class and were Grand Champions in the MO/KS Amateur/Jr. Exhibitor Five-Gaited Stake.
 
Lauren Greenwald of Houston, Texas, and The Straight Guy were Champions of the MO/KS Three-Gaited Country Pleasure class and Grand Champions of the MO/KS Three- Gaited Country Pleasure Championship class.
 
Emily Abbott of Zionsville, Ind., and Orr’s Fired Up received a Championship ribbon in the MO/KS Three-Gaited Park Amateur class and placed third in the MO/KS Three-Gaited Park Stake.
 
Allison Strash of Pleasant Prairie, Wis., and Charm’s Top Cat placed second in the MO/KS Three-Gaited Show Pleasure Adult class and placed fifth in the MO/KS Three-Gaited Show Pleasure Championship class.
 
Elizabeth Thomas of South Amherst, Ohio, and Enchanting Hour placed fifth in the MO/KS Amateur/Jr. Exhibitor Three-Gaited class and fourth in the MO/KS Amateur/Jr. Exhibitor Three-Gaited Stake.
 
Claire Karst of Tampa, Fla., and Bring Out The Champagne placed fifth in the MO/KS Amateur/Jr. Exhibitor Five-Gaited class and placed eighth in the MO/KS Amateur/Jr. Exhibitor Five-Gaited Stake.
 
Beth Oseroff of Dallas, Texas, and Design in Motion placed seventh in the MO/KS Amateur/Jr. Exhibitor Three-Gaited class and placed eighth in the MO/KS Amateur/Jr. Exhibitor Three-Gaited Stake.
 
Murphy McSemek of Fulton, Mo., and Ro & Me’s Kiss and Tell showed in the highly competitive Three-Gaited Show Pleasure 18-38 class.
 
“I was so proud of my students. They all reaped the benefits of the hard work they put in all semester long,” said Sarah Track, clinical instructor of saddle seat at WWU. “It is very rewarding to put horse and rider combinations together that are so successful.”
