WWU Theatre to Perform ‘Amadeus’

A play exploring the rivalry between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and another composer will be presented by the William Woods University Theatre Department as its next play. “Amadeus” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1, 2 and 3 and 2 p.m. Dec. 4 in Cutlip Auditorium of the McNutt Campus Center.

“Amadeus” stars Drew Arnett of Columbia, Mo., as Mozart and Jason Cavallone of Chicago, Ill., as Antonio Salieri, the court composer for the emperor of Austria in the late 18th century. Jealous of Mozart’s genius and resentful of his own mediocrity, Salieri secretly rejects God and vows to destroy his rival’s career.
 
Other WWU student cast members are: Paige Runge of St. Louis, Mo., as Constanze Weber; T.J. Green of Brandon, Miss., as Joseph II; Michael J. Dodson of Mexico, Mo., as Count Johann Kilian von Strack; James Fitzmaurice of Columbia, Mo., as Baron Gottfried van Swieten; Jen Steindorf of San Diego, Calif., as Venticello 1; and Rachel Petricka of Las Vegas, Nev., as Venticello 2.
 
Also, Nick Hoover of Kingdom City, Mo., as Salieri’s Valet/Citizen; Kayla Jo Pulliam of Bloomington, Ill., as Salieri’s Cook/Citizen; Amanda Almich of Granby, Mo., as Teresa Salieri; Bailey Campanini of Camdenton, Mo., as Katherina Cavalieri; and Stephen Chamineak of St. Louis, Mo., as Guiseppe Bonno/Citizen.
 
Citizens and servants of Vienna are: A.J. Housewright of St. Louis, Mo.; Lincoln Purvis of Montgomery City, Mo.; Maggie Hunter of Columbia, Mo.; Kassaundra Davidson of Roseau, Minn.; and Panda Campbell of Fulton, Mo.  Jim Bucher, a community player from Hermann, Mo., is Count Franz Orsini-Rosenberg.
 
This production will be directed by Melissa Alpers-Springer, assistant professor of communications and theatre. The late Dan Springer designed the set, and Dustin West will design the lights for this production. Jane Friedman will provide costume design.
