Rocky Horror Picture Show fans can get a double-dose of the cult-classic film just in time for Halloween.

The movie returns to William Woods University Wednesday, Oct. 26, and a Rocky Horror Masquerade Ball is planned for Oct. 29.

Free and open to the public, the movie will be shown at 9 p.m. in Cutlip Auditorium of the McNutt Campus Center. The showing is sponsored by the WWU Jesters Club.  The masquerade ball, sponsored by Sir Winston’s Restaurant & Pub, will be held from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. in restaurant’s banquet room.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the 1975 film adaptation of the British rock musical stageplay, “The Rocky Horror Show,” written by Richard O'Brien. The film is a parody of B-movie, science fiction and horror films of the late 1940s through early 1970s. With a large international cult following, it is one of the most well known and financially successful midnight movies of all time.

The film is interactive, so Jesters will be selling prop packets at the door for $5 each. They encourage people to come dressed in costume, cheer/jeer their favorite character, and dance the Time Warp.

The masquerade ball is a community event. William Woods University students are auditioning for the cast of seven, and those who are chosen can designate a WWU organization of their choice to share in a percentage of the proceeds.

To audition for the cast, contact Jason Knowles at Jason.Knowles@williamwoods.edu to arrange an audition between now and Oct. 26.

Tickets for the masquerade ball are $10 in advance or $15 at the door. The cover charge includes appetizers and entertainment. A live DJ, dance floor, cash bar and full menu will be available.

A first place prize of $100 will be awarded for the best costume at the masquerade ball. A Time Warp Dance Contest will also be held. The entry fee is $5, and a $50 first place prize will be awarded.

For tickets to the ball, call 573-642-7733 or visit Sir Winston’s at 1205 S. Business 54 in Fulton, Mo.

The Jesters Club is committed to bringing a greater awareness of theatre and its artistic place in society to the community at large, as well as providing support to the William Woods University Theatre Department.
