Wortmann Recognized as Outstanding Sophomore

Katherine WortmannKatherine Wortmann of Mexico, Mo., received a Student Alumni Council Outstanding Sophomore Award at William Woods University’s recent co-curricular honors banquet.

The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.
 
Wortmann is a member of the Student Alumni Council and has served as class president and historian. She has also been president of the Hands Up Club, vice president of the Multicultural Affairs Club and co-chair of University Ambassadors.
 
She is a member of President’s Twenty, Kindness Connection, Campus Activities Board, Student Assembly, Up ‘til Dawn and Knowing the Woods Club. She serves as a Freshman Advantage mentor and a peer mentor. She was chosen to represent William Woods University at the Governor’s Student Leadership Forum.
 
She is a member of Alpha Mu Gamma, the foreign language honorary society, and Alpha Chi Omega sorority and holds a position on the executive board. She is the sophomore class representative for the Chapter Standards and Relations Board.
 
Wortmann has participated in fundraising for cardiac health, Make A Wish Foundation, Service for Sight, Michael J. Fox foundation, V Foundation for Cancer Research and Women Against Domestic Violence.
 
She also participated in the Trick-or-Treat with Greeks, volunteers at nursing homes and provides donations to children’s shelters. Wortmann is a volunteer youth basketball coach with the YMCA and a volunteer with SERVE, Inc.
