William Woods University students continue tradition and school spirit by celebrating the fifth annual CourtWarming, Jan. 31- Feb. 5. The events are sponsored by the Student Alumni Council.
Students will vote online throughout the week to elect a WWU CourtWarming king and queen and their court. A number of events, including a residence hall competition, are planned to encourage school spirit and support for WWU’s men and women’s basketball teams.
Starting Monday, residence halls will decorate pillow cases as banners or flags. WWU faculty will judge them.
On Tuesday, students are encouraged to wear WWU logo clothing, superhero colors or a superhero costume for Spirit Day residence hall competition from noon to 3 p.m. in the McNutt Campus Center. In addition, WWU faculty and staff will have the opportunity “Pay to Play”— a $2 donation will allow them to wear jeans, WWU apparel or a superhero costume for the day. This will be a contest between offices.
Events will continue with a mini carnival Wednesday, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the McNutt Campus Center. Court nominees will be announced (10 women and 10 men) at 6 p.m.
A faculty and staff basketball game will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at Anderson Arena. Students attending the game will earn participation points for their residence halls. Extra points will be awarded if students are wearing WWU attire.
A pep rally and announcement of the CourtWarming finalists will be Friday at 7 p.m. in the Anderson Arena. The coaches and captains will speak, and the WWU cheerleaders and dance team will perform.
On Saturday, Feb. 5, a team and family brunch for the men and women’s basketball teams will be held in Tucker Dining Hall in preparation for the day’s games.
Both teams will play Harris-Stowe University in the afternoon. The women’s game will start at 2 p.m. and the men’s will start at 4 p.m. The CourtWarming king and queen will be announced at halftime during the men’s game.
