Greeks Receive Recognition at WWU

Every year the sororities and fraternities at William Woods University continue to strive for excellence, both in the classroom and the community. As a result of their efforts, Greek chapters and individual members were honored at the annual Greek Awards Ceremony April 25.
All categories, except Greek of the Year, were judged by Greek coordinators at other universities and staff at various sorority and fraternity headquarters.
Greek of the Year Awards, given to the sorority and fraternity member who best exemplifies Greek life at William Woods, went to Alpha Chi Omega’s Liza Payne of Zionsville, Ind., and Pi Kappa Alpha’s Scott Thompson of St. James, Mo.
Outstanding Senior Awards went to Alpha Chi Omega’s Vanessa Thomas of St. Charles, Mo., and Scott Thompson. Outstanding Junior Awards went to Liza Payne and Phi Gamma Delta’s Harrison Jones of Fulton, Mo. Outstanding Sophomore Awards went to Alpha Chi Omega’s Lauren Greenwald of Houston, Texas, and Drew Neudecker of Alton, Ill. Outstanding New Member Awards went to Alpha Chi Omega’s Katherine Wortmann of Mexico, Mo., and Phi Gamma Delta’s Shawn Claypool of Jefferson City, Mo.
The Outstanding Chapter President Award went to Alpha Chi Omega’s Heather Oetjen of Prior Lake, Minn. Alpha Chi Omega’s advisor, Judy Schmuck of Wildwood, Mo., won the Advisor of the Year Award for her hard work and dedication to the sorority. Angie Johnson, housekeeper for Alpha Phi, received the Faculty/Staff Member of the Year Award.
Chapters that received the Outstanding Philanthropy Award were Alpha Chi Omega for Lyrefest, which supports CARDV, a local organization dealing with domestic violence, and Phi Gamma Delta for Fiji Islander, which raises money for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
The Unsung Hero Award was given to Chi Omega’s Olivia Parsons of New Haven, Mo., Kathryn Stief of Seymour, Ill., Annie Eime of Columbia, Mo.; Alpha Chi Omega’sJenna Brown of Fulton, Mo., Gienna Merola of Riverside, Ill., Andrea Weed of Kansas City, Mo., and Pi Kappa Alpha’s Mike Towle of Grandview, Mo.
The Order of Omega Awards, given to Greek members nominated by other chapters and voted on by the members of Order of Omega Greek honor society, went to Alpha Chi Omega’s Liza Payne; Alpha Phi’s Gina Davis of Chesterfield, Mo.; Chi Omega’s Ann Dehart of Keosauqua, Iowa; Delta Gamma’s Carmen Watchinski of Columbia, Mo.; Pi Kappa Alpha’s Scott Thompson, and Phi Gamma Delta’s Harrison Jones.
In addition to other awards, Alpha Chi Omega earned the Outstanding Sorority Grades Award and Phi Gamma Delta received the Outstanding Fraternity Grades Award.
