Renovated in late 2002, the lobby will now house a rotating exhibit of approximately 12 paintings by WWU students and faculty. The art will be on display behind the tellers for approximately six weeks at a time.
Debbie LaRue, Callaway Bank director of public relations, said the bank was especially pleased to give the college students the chance to have their work displayed in a public place, which is a unique opportunity for young artists.
“We suggested this partnership because we recognize the talents of the art students and faculty of William Woods University,” she said. “We hope everyone will enjoy the ongoing displays of their creativity.”
Terry Martin, WWU professor of art, agrees.
“I am noticing an increase in the levels of experience and talent from students coming to study studio art at William Woods,” he said. “It seems to me an artist on a professional course must exhibit and have the benefit of public reaction to his or her work. I am proud of the accomplishments of my students—some have won national and state awards—and now I look forward to the opportunity they have to share their accomplishments with the community.”
