The William Woods University Delta Epsilon Chi (DEX) organization successfully competed at the Missouri state competition, placing first in three events.

DEX is an international organization for college students preparing for careers in marketing, merchandising or management. WWU’s DEX is sponsored by Linda Duke, instructor of marketing and business.

In addition to the three first place awards, three WWU students placed second, two earned third place awards and two placed fourth.

The WWU results:

Rebecca Cooper of Red Bud, Ill., first in travel and tourism and second in financial services

Melissa Smith of Fort Myers, Fla., first in entrepreneurship and fourth in travel and tourism

Steve Brocks of Portsmouth, UK, and Adam Reed of Columbia, Mo., first in sports and entertainment marketing

Amber Vieth of Jefferson City, Mo., second in internet marketing

Gabe George of Salisbury, Mo., and Clayton Thompson of Vandalia, Mo., second in sports and entertainment marketing

Theresa Gregar of Louisburg, Kan., and Josh Jackson of Mexico, Mo., also qualified to attend the International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, Calif., April 21-26.

Duke said another big accomplishment was the placement of Cooper in the written exam.

“The written exam is a 100-question marketing management test that anyone who competes in an individual event must take. She placed third out of everyone in Missouri.”

The state competition was a two-day event held at the Lodge of the Four Seasons in Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks. The two days included testing, role play, presentation preparation, competitive games for chapter money (trivia), a guest speaker, luncheon and an awards ceremony.
