Quick Receives Helen Stephens Award at WWU

This award is presented annually to an outstanding junior athlete who has achieved excellence both in the classroom and intercollegiate athletics. The student must demonstrate the discipline, desire and talent that best describes the legacy of Olympic Gold Medalist and William Woods alumna, Helen Stephens.
Quick is an outfielder for the Lady Owls softball team, and has received several honors for her achievement on and off the field.
As a freshman, she was named Second Team NAIA All-American, NFCA Second Team All-American, First Team NAIA All-Region V, NFCA First Team All-Midwest Region, First Team All-AMC, NFCA All-American Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-AMC.
Along with her honors, she finished with a .384 batting average, lead her team in runs with 64, was second in hits with 77 and first in stolen bases, stealing 31 of the team’s 41 all season. The following season, in 2007, she was named First Team All-AMC and Academic All-AMC. She finished the season with a .354 batting average, second in runs with 40, third in hits in 58 and dominated stolen bases again, stealing 18 of the teams 23.
So far during the 2008 season, she has a .395 batting average, is second in the team in runs, and once again, leads the team in stolen bases. Results and statistics for 2008 are incomplete.
In addition to her athletic activities, Quick is a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, EDU Owls, Athletic Council and Champions of Character. Her testimonial about responsibility was recently featured on the NAIA website.
