“ARockmetic: Musical Mathematics” is the theme this year, taking what the students have already learned about mathematics and adding a little twist. Fourth grade students from McIntire, Bartley, Bush and St. Peters elementary schools have been invited to attend.
The fair will be hosted by Shari Means and the future teachers in her Teaching Elementary Math class (EDU 341). Means is an assistant professor of education at WWU.
Each school will spend an hour and a half rotating through eight of problem solving activities designed with a musical theme. Two or three college students from the class will assist at each station.
Every station will be set up in accordance with the Missouri Grade Level Expectations and recommendations from the elementary teachers. The goal is to give students a helpful review for the MAP Test that all of them are required to take at the end of the year.
It will also give the future teachers the chance to learn the math curriculum and apply it directly to teaching the fourth grade students.
The fair will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in the multipurpose room of Helen Stephens Sports Complex on the WWU campus.
