The clinic is being hosted by the William Woods Horse Judging Team and their coach, Jennie Petterson, equestrian science clinical instructor at WWU. The team is the 2006 U. S. National Championship Judging Team.
The clinic is geared toward 4H and FFA youth and their coaches/parents, but it is free and open to anyone who wants to learn more about horse judging and become a more competitive horse judging contestant. Participants are advised to bring note-taking materials.
Clinic format will include instruction and demonstrations on how to judge the class, a mock class to practice judge, consisting of four different horses, time to place the class, the official results for that class, and finally a question and answer session on why the class was placed that way.
Classes will include Western Pleasure Senior Horse, Western Pleasure Junior Horse, Hunter Under Saddle, Saddle Seat English Pleasure, Pleasure/Saddle Horse Halter and Stock Horse Halter. A discussion about the saddle type western pleasure horse will be included.
Following the demonstrations and classes, there will be a discussion about oral reasons. This will include overall procedure, structure and methods of practicing reasons.
