Winning first place was Victor Calderon of Houston, Texas. Mikol Reichardt of Middletown, Mo., came in second, with Kelsey Barrett of Billings, Mo., third. Honorable mention went to Jennifer Costello of South St. Louis County and Kelley Martin of Flippin, Ark.
Judges were Jennifer Bondurant, editor of Jefferson City Home and Lifestyle Magazine; Chris Daily, visual arts instructor at Fulton High School, and Paula Kientzel, professional artist and University of Missouri graduate student in art.
The show will be on display at WestWood Coffee Shop through the rest of October.
Twelve pieces were submitted to the Callaway County Public Library and more than 70 additional pieces were completed by students at William Woods University.
“We are thrilled with the number of entries we’ve received this year,” Kate Graf, librarian and One Read coordinator for Callaway County, said. “The circus theme seemed to appeal to people and we have had far more pieces submitted than in previous years. It makes a very nice art show.”
The show is based on this year’s One Read selection, “Water for Elephants,” which tells the tale of an elderly man recounting his days in the circus during the Great Depression.
WestWood is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
