Adeline Anne (Gatewood) Meazle
Conway, Ark., died May 13, 2013. She
was an active member of the Water
Willies, Green Owl staff, and the Texas
Club at William Woods. Anne was an
elementary teacher for many years. In
her community she was a member of
the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where
she served on the Vestry, Altar Guild,
and the Christian education and garden
Nancy (Belz) Swanson
Santa Cruz,
Calif., passed away Aug. 20, 2013. She
worked for 23 years as a grade school
teacher and learning center resource
director. Nancy was involved with the
International Relations Club and the
YWCA during her time on campus.
Gail Freeze,
Jonesboro, Ark., died
April 30, 2013. She was a member of
First Baptist Church in Jonesboro. At
William Woods, Gail was involved
with the chapel choir, the International
Relations Club, YWCA, and served as
a hostess for prospective students and a
member of the Dad’s Day committee.
Sherrie ( Jones) Hylton
Ill., passed away Aug. 7, 2013. Her
passions included cooking, needlework,
and art. At William Woods, Sherrie
was an active member of her sorority,
Delta Gamma, and throughout the
years she held various positions in the
medical field.
Alicia (Davis) Boessen
Jefferson City,
Mo., passed away June 15, 2013. She
graduated with a degree in business
and marketing and worked as a sales
supervisor with Century Link for 11
years. During her time at William
Woods, Alicia was a member of Delta
Gamma and participated in softball.
Alicia loved spending time with her
family and enjoyed the outdoors.
Community Passings
James S. Summers
Fulton, Mo., passed
away July 16, 2013. He taught biology
for 42 years at William Woods and
retired in 1994. Jim was a member of
St. Alban’s Church, Beta Theta Pi, and
the Kiwanis Club of Fulton. In 1984,
Jim established the James S. Summers
Scholarship Fund. He was a charter
member of the Ivy Legacy Society and
he was inducted as an honorary alum.

Woodland Hills,
Calif., president of Weider Health
and Fitness, died March 23, 2013.
He had been an honorary member of
the WWU Board of Trustees since
His company publishes Muscle
Fitness, Shape, and Flex magazines,
among the most popular health
magazines on the newsstands. Weider
was named honorary trustee for his
energetic advocacy of health
education and fitness at WWU.
His support made the Weider
Fitness Center possible.
