When Patricia Murphy O’Rourke of
Fulton, Mo., first graduated from
William Woods College in 1952 with an
associate degree, she could not have
imagined her partnership with the
institution would last to the present.
Pat has given her time, talent, and trea-
sure to William Woods as few
others have.
Today, Pat is recognized as the most
distinguished member of the new
Emerald Society, which recognizes
those who have donated to the university
for a minimum of 10 consecutive years.
Pat has made a gift to William Woods
for 28 consecutive years, the most
unbroken years of giving for any
alum or friend of the university.
I’m totally dedicated to William
Woods and greatly appreciate what I
have received,” said O’Rourke.
William Woods is a great school.
I love it and always have.”
O’Rourke went on to receive a
bachelor’s degree in business from
WWU in 1974. She has been an active
volunteer and has served on the alumni
board for 20 years. For the last 16 years,
she and her husband of 61 years, Earl,
have donated a handmade rug to
William Woods for its annual auction.
I believe it is important to show
loyalty to the school; to help the
students,” said O’Rourke. “Each year,
I give what I can. I would encourage
others to do the same. In the end, it’s
not how much you give; it’s that you
give from the heart.”
Pat O’Rourke and those who
give consistently to the university for
or more years are our most loyal
supporters,” said Dr. Jahnae H. Barnett,
WWU president. “We are pleased to
create the Emerald Society, which
gives them the recognition they so
richly deserve.”
Since its inception more than 10 years
ago, the President’s Club Giving Society
has proudly recognized those donors
who give a minimum of $1,000 to the
university’s Loyalty Fund each year.
These gifts are the foundation of the
Loyalty Fund, which raises money
to meet the most urgent needs of
the institution, including
institutional scholarships.
Now, the President’s Club Giving
Society includes all the loyal donors
who support William Woods with a
minimum annual gift of $1,000 to any
funding priority of the institution.
Designated gifts to athletics, specific
academic programs, capital projects,
the Imagine Campaign, and more
now quality for membership.
We want to ensure all those who
make annual gifts of $1,000 or more
are properly recognized no matter the
designations of the gifts. A person who
supports the Imagine Campaign by
contributing $1,000 a year for five years
for a total of a $5,000 pledge deserves
the same recognition as someone who
gives the same amount annually to
the Loyalty Fund. The university will
recognize all of the members of the
President’s Club Giving Society, new
and old, during Alumni Weekend
April 25-27, 2014.
