Competition Couldn't Touch
Anthony Stockton at the
NAIA National Championship
Anthony Stockton
a track and field athlete,
finished first in the hammer throw at the
NAIA Outdoor Track and Field
Championships, becoming the first Owl
to win a NAIA national championship.
Stockton, who came into the meet with
the longest toss this year in the hammer, lived
up to the incredible expectations by throwing
m to defeat Bo Johnson of Concordia
Ore.) by 1.16m.
I'm speechless,” said Stockton. “I don't
know how to put it into words. I'm just very
blessed to be the first NAIA National
Champion (from WWU). It's amazing.”
The pressure of being the top seed going
into the meet didn't affect Stockton, as he
says previous experience on the national level
helped him prepare for the biggest moment of
his colligate career.
William Woods head coach
couldn't hold back the
excitement in talking about his
national champion.
It's exciting for our program
and Anthony that he was able to
become the first person in school history to
win an NAIA National Championship. It's a
huge payoff for all the hard work that he has
put in over the last four year at WWU.”
Radkoweic credits Stockton's incredible
work ethic and positive attitude in helping him
reach the highest level for an NAIA thrower.
He sets a good example for the rest of the
students and student-athletes here at William
Woods. He is an extremely hard worker and
is very well liked around the campus. He
always has a smile on his face and he just
brings a lot of positive energy when he
enters a room.”
