Degree Program Detail
Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education
Students who plan to teach grades 1-6 in Missouri complete this sequence of courses and a concentration of 21 hours in an eligible academic area. (Only courses for Social Science concentration will be scheduled for evening program students.)
Students who complete the 12-hour Early Childhood endorsement sequence and the Elementary Education major concurrently can also be recommended for certification to teach birth through third grade. (Courses not offered in evening/cohort format.)
Students interested in becoming certified to teach in other states need to follow these program requirements and be recommended for Missouri certification by the Registrar. They may then take that certification to other states. Policies vary among states.
Information on the curriculum, policies and requirements of the university’s Teacher Education Program and of its teacher certification process is available in the Teacher Education Program handbook. The handbook is posted on the Education program’s website.
This program is not an accelerated program. It is a traditional undergraduate program, taught by WWU faculty, that is offered during evening hours, so working professionals may work toward certification while maintaining full-time employment.
- Students entering this program must have 50 to 60 transferable credit hours.
- Upper level coursework must be completed with WWU to satisfy the residency requirement.
- All parts of C-Base must be passed before taking upper level EDU courses.
- Students must pass the appropriate PRAXIS test before beginning student teaching.
- EDU490 requires 12 weeks of student teaching in public school classroom.
