Kristi PalmerKristi Palmer Competes at Outdoor Nationals

(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill., May 21) - Sophomore Kristi Palmer (Saint Genevieve, Mo.) was the lone member of the William Woods University women's outdoor track team to compete at the 2009 NAIA Outdoor National Championships at Ralph Korte Stadium on the campus of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Ill.

Palmer ran in the 1500 Meter Run trials Thursday afternoon.  She finished 6th out of 12 runners in her heat.  Palmer finished with a time of 4:39.74.  Her time broke the William Woods University school record, which she set at the University of Central Missouri Relays on April 17th, 2009 (4:43.93).   Palmer missed the cut and will not compete in the finals of the 1500 Meter Run.  Only twelve runners qualify for the finals.  Palmer finished 13th in the event.  Bekah Regenfuss (Olivet Nazarene University) secured the final spot in the 1500 with a time of 4:38.37.

This was Palmer's fifth National Championship event.  Palmer qualified for the 2007 and 2008 NAIA Cross Country National Championships, and the 2008 and 2009 NAIA Indoor National Championships in the 3000 meter run.

2009 Track National ChampionshipsTrack Heads to Nationals

(FULTON, Mo., May 20) - Two members of the William Woods University outdoor track team will head to the 2009 NAIA Outdoor National Championships this week.  Kristi Palmer and Phil Guidry will compete at the National Championships beginning on May 21st at Ralph Korte Stadium on the campus of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in Edwardsville, Ill.

Jessica BollingerWomen's Track Finishes 4th at AMC Championships

(LEBANON, Ill., May 2)--The William Woods University women's outdoor track team finished fourth at the American Midwest Conference Outdoor Track Championships. McKendree University won the event for the second straight year.

Jessica Bollinger (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) won two events for William Woods. Bollinger competed in the 10,000 Meter and 5000 Meter Run. Bollinger won the 10,000 Meter Run with a time of 40:10.99. Her time in the event set an AMC Championship record, and established a new personal record. She also won the 5000 Meter Run with a time of 19:31.51.

Miranda Loesch (Lohman, Mo.) competed in three field events for WWU. Loesch won the Shot Put with a throw of 11.98 meters. Her throw set an AMC Championship record, and is a new personal record. She finished second in the Discus with a throw of 34.28 meters. Her throw in the discus is a personal record. Kerry McDermott (Hannibal-LaGrange) won the event with a throw of 37.18 meters. Loesch finished 4th in the Javelin with a throw of 23.26 meters.

Amanda Workman (Chadwick, Mo.) also competed in the Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin for the Owls. Workman finished 5th in the Shot Put with a throw of 9.18 meters. She finished 6th in the Discus with a throw of 24.26 meters. She finished 6th in the Javelin with a throw of 22.46 meters.

Abrina Tainter (Lisle, Ill.) competed in two field events for WWU. Tainter finished 7th in the Discus with a throw of 21.86 meters. She finished 9th in the Javelin with a throw of 18.76 meters.

Ciara Tatum (Columbia, Mo.) competed in two events for the Owls. Tatum finished 8th out of 12 runners in the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 27.43. She finished 4th out of nine runners in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:01.42.

Jordan Locke (Hannibal, Mo.) also competed in the 800 Meter Run for William Woods. Locke finished 5th with a time of 2:38.53.

Kristi Palmer (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) ran in the 1500 Meter Run for the Owls. Palmer finished 2nd with a time of 4:47.86. Meagan Hudson (Missouri Baptist) won the event with a time of 4:42.35.

Emily Edens (Ozark, Mo.) competed in the 100 Meter Hurdles for WWU. Edens finished 5th in the event with a time of 18:36. She also competed in the Javelin. Edens finished 2nd out of 10 throwers with a throw of 33.17 meters. Her throw established a new personal record. Emma McCarthy (Hannibal-LaGrange) won the Javelin with a throw of 33.79 meters.

AMC Outdoor Track Championships Results

Palmer has qualified for the 2009 NAIA National Outdoor Championships. The NAIA's final event will take place in Edwardsville, Ill., May 21-23.

Loesch will make one final attempt to qualify for the National Championships in the Shot Put and Discus. She will compete at the Rend Lake Invitational on May 9th.

(WARRENSBURG, Mo., April 18)--The William Woods University women's outdoor track team competed in its fourth outdoor meet of the 2009 season. The Owls traveled to Warrensburg, Mo., and competed in the University of Central Missouri Relays.

Sophomore Kristi Palmer (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) competed in the 1500 Meter Run for William Woods. Palmer finished second in a field of nine with a time of 4:43.93. Meagan Hudson (Missouri Baptist University) won the event with a time of 4:40.46. Palmer took 10 seconds off her personal best, and set a new William Woods school record in the event. Jane Alves set the WWU record in the 1500 Meter Run in 1978 with a time of 4:48.90. Palmer met the "B" standard for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships. She was a 10th of a second from meeting the "A" standard.

Junior Emily Edens (Ozark, Mo.) also had a record setting day for William Woods. Edens finished 11th in a field of 26 throwers in the Javelin. Edens had a long throw of 101-04 feet. The throw broke her own school record. Brandy Simpson (Coffeyville CC) won the event with a throw of 125-00 feet.

Freshman Miranda Loesch (Lohman, Mo.) competed in the Shot Put and Discus Throw for the Owls. Loesch finished 19th in the Discus. Her long throw in the event was 97-01 feet. Kayla Muyskens (Unattached) won the event with a throw of 150-01 feet. Loesch finished 13th in the Shot Put. Loesch had a long throw of 34-03 feet. Sophomore Amanda Workman (Chadwick, Mo.) also competed in the Shot Put for the Owls. Workman had a long throw of 30-01.50 feet. Heather Minssen (University of Nebraska-Omaha) won the event with a throw of 46-06.25 feet.

Freshman Ciara Tatum (Columbia, Mo.) and freshman Jordan Locke (Hannibal, Mo.) each competed in the 400 Meter Dash for the Owls. Locke finished 15th with a time of 1:06.43. Tatum finished 16th with a time of 1:06.94. Paris Daniels (Coffeyville CC) won the event with a time of 57.10.

The Owls will return to the track on April 25th at the Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville Relays.

Kristi PalmerWomen's Track Competes at Central Methodist

(Fayette, Mo., April 10)--The William Woods University women's outdoor track team competed in its third outdoor meet of the 2009 season. The Owls traveled to Fayette, Mo., and competed in the Central Methodist University - Asics Invitational.

Sophomore Kristi Palmer (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) won the 1500 Meter Run for the Owls. She defeated the field of 11 runners to earn her second consecutive victory in the event. Palmer also won the William Jewell Invitational 1500 Meter Run last week. Palmer also competed in the 800 Meter Run. She finished third out of a field of 12 runners with a time of 2:26.94.

Freshman Ciara Tatum (Columbia, Mo.) competed in the 200 Meter Dash for the WWU. Tatum finished seventh out of 20 runners with a time of 27.61. Tatum set a personal record in the event. Last week, she ran a time of 28.43 at the William Jewell Invitational.

Freshman Jordan Locke (Hannibal, Mo.) and Marisa Benthusen (Raymore, Mo.) each competed for the Owls in the 400 Meter Dash. Locke finished 12th with a time of 1:07.57, and Benthusen finished 14th with a time of 1:15.70.

Freshman Miranda Loesch (Lohman, Mo.) competed in two field events for the Owls. Loesch finished eighth out of 20 throwers in the Shot Put with a throw of 34-02.00. She also established a new WWU school record in the Discus Throw. Loesch finished 13th with a throw of 27.41 meters.

Sophomore Amanda Workman (Chadwick, Mo.) also competed for William Woods in the Shot Put. Workman finished 16th with a throw of 29-08.00.

Junior Emily Edens (Ozark, Mo.) competed in the Javelin Throw for the Owls. Edens finished fifth out of nine entries with a throw of 91-07 meters.

The Owls will return to the track on April 17th at the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays in Warrensburg, Mo.

Kristi PalmerWomen's Track Competes at William Jewell

(Liberty, Mo., April 4)--The William Woods University women's outdoor track team competed in its second outdoor meet of the 2009 season. The Owls traveled to Liberty, Mo., and competed in the Darrell Gourley Meet at William Jewell College.

Sophomore Kristi Palmer (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) competed in two events for the Owls. Palmer won the 1500 Meter Run with a time of 4:56.84. Palmer defeated the field of 15 runners, and placed third all-time at WWU behind Janes Alves (4:48.90 in 1978), and her own time of 4:56.82 in 2008. Palmer also competed in the 800 Meter Run. She finished fifth in a field of 21 runners with a time of 2:34.02.

Freshman Miranda Loesch (Lohman, Mo.) competed in her first event of the 2009 season. Loesch finished seventh out of 19 entries in the Shot Put with a throw of 35'5". Her throw establishes a new William Woods University school record.

Sophomore Amanda Workman (Chadwick, Mo.) also competed in her first event of the season. Workman placed 19th in the Shot Put with a throw of 28'9".

Freshman Ciara Tatum (Columbia, Mo.) continued the trend of first-meet success for the Owls at the invitational. Tatum finished 4th in the 400 Meter Dash with a time of 61.67. In the 13-runner field, Tatum placed fourth all-time at William Woods in the event. Brigde Siefner holds the record with a time of 59.70 (1978). Tatum also finished sixth out of 22 runners in the 200 Meter Dash. Her time of 28.43 places her third all-time at WWU behind Lane Buder (26.90 in 1977) and Whitney Gardner (27.28 in 2008).

Junior Emily Edens (Ozark, Mo.) improved on her school record in the Javelin. Edens finished sixth in a field of 11 throwers with a throw of 100'5".

The team will return to the track on April 10th at the Central Methodist University Invitational in Fayette, Mo.

Cheryl HeldOutdoor Track Season Opens

(COLUMBIA, Mo., March 27)--The William Woods University outdoor track teams opened the 2009 season on Friday afternoon at the 10th Annual University of Missouri Relays. The Owls battled tough conditions, and a strong field, in its first outdoor meet of the season.

The WWU women's team was led by freshman Cheryl Held (Wildwood, Mo.). Held competed in her first 10,000 Meter Run. She responded by finishing 4th in a field of seven runners. Held finished with a time of 38:55.60. Lisa Lewis (unattached) won the event with a time of 37:33.86. Held's time met the NAIA National Outdoor qualification B standard. It was 10 seconds off an automatic qualification to the National Championships. Held shattered the WWU school record (40:42.60 by Jessica Bollinger in 2008) by over a minute.

Junior Emily Edens (Ozark, Mo.) competed in the Javelin for WWU. Edens finished sixth in a field of 17 with a combined throw of 95-06 feet. Kimoya Harriott (University of Missouri-Kansas City) won the event with a combined throw of 121-01 feet.

Edens also competed in the 200 Meter Dash for William Woods. She finished the event with a time of 30.34.

On the men's side, junior Corey DeVore (Chariton, Iowa) competed in the 200 Meter Dash for William Woods. DeVore finished the event with a time of 24.31. Sophomore Justin Simms (Festus, Mo.) also competed in the 200 Meter Dash for the Owls. Simms finished the race with a time of 25.90. Ryan Blackwell (University of Missouri) won the race with a time of 21.85.

Two Owls competed in the 5000 Meter Run. Junior Emmanuel Ramirez (Des Plaines, Ill.) and Freshman Michael Nedeau (Liberty, Mo.) battled frigid conditions and a large field (48 runners) in Columbia, Mo. Ramirez finished the event with a time of 16:16.16. At this time, an official time for Nedeau is unavailable. Leydon Tolhurst (Drake University) won the event with a time of 14:54.73.

The men's and women's track team will return to action on April 4th at the Darrell Gourley Meet in Liberty, Mo.

Cheryl HeldHeld Finishes 7th in 5K at National Indoor Championships

(Johnson City, Tenn., March 7)--Freshman Cheryl Held competed in the finals of the 5000 Meter Run on Saturday at the NAIA Indoor Championships. Held, who broke the school record on Friday in the prelims, finished 7th out of 12 runners in the event. Held broke her own school record in the finals. She finished the event with a time of 18:05.37, shaving almost 11 seconds off her time from the day before.

Held just missed All-American standards in the event. The top six finishers qualify as All-Americans. Held finished just under 15 seconds behind 6th place Rebecca Sopp (Vanguard University).

For William Woods, this marks the first time in school history that an individual has qualified for a championship final at the Indoor Championships.

Held has put together an impressive freshman season.  She was named the American Midwest Conference cross country freshman of the year, first team All-AMC, and qualified for the 2008 NAIA Cross Country National Championships, as well as the 2009 NAIA Indoor National Championships.

NAIA Indoor Track and Field National ChampionshipsHeld Qualifies for National Indoor Championships

(Johnson City, Tenn., March 6)--Three members of the William Woods University women's indoor team competed at the NAIA Indoor National Championships on Friday in Johnson City, Tenn.

Freshman Cheryl Held ran a new William Woods University school record in the 5000 Meter Run. Held finished the event with a time of 18:16.64, and qualified for the finals of the 5000 Meter. She will compete for All-American honors at 2:45 pm on Saturday, March 7th. Held will run in a field of 12 runners. Held is one of four freshman competing in the finals of the 5000 Meter.

Sophomore Kristi Palmer competed in the 3000 Meter Run for the Owls. Palmer finished 7th in her heat with a time of 10:35.20. Palmer finished 19th overall in the event. The top 12 qualified for the finals on Saturday. Palmer has now qualified for two cross country, and two indoor National Championship events in her two years at William Woods.

Sophomore Jessica Bollinger also competed in the 3000 Meter Run for the Owls. Bollinger finished 10th in her heat with a time of 11:07.02. Bollinger finished 31st overall in the event. This was her first National Championship event at William Woods.

Sophomore Kristi Palmer (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) will compete in the 3000 Meter Run for William Woods. Palmer will enter the prelims as the 16th ranked runner in the event. She qualified for the event with a time of 10:27.38. Palmer is making her third NAIA National Championship appearance. She qualified for the 2008 NAIA Indoor National Championships and the 2008 NAIA Cross Country National Championships.

Palmer and Bollinger will compete in the prelims of the 3000 Meter Run on Friday, March 6th. The event will begin at approximately 5:25 pm. The finals of the 3000 Meter Run are scheduled for Saturday, March 7th, at approximately 2:05 pm.

Held will compete in the prelims of the 5000 Meter Run on Friday, March 6th. The event will begin at approximately 6:40 pm. the finals of the 5000 Meter Run are scheduled for Saturday, March 7th, at approximately 2:45 pm.

Cheryl HeldWomen's Indoor Track Runs Well at Mizzou

(COLUMBIA, Mo., Feb. 20 & 21)--The William Woods University women's indoor track team had a successful weekend on the campus of the University of Missouri.

Freshman Cheryl Held continued her impressive freshman season on Friday night at the University of Missouri Collegiate Challenge. Held won the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:25.71. Held defeated Ashley Mark (University of Missouri) by just over 28 seconds. Her time is a personal record, a William Woods University indoor record, and qualifies her for the NAIA National Indoor Championships. Held broke the record set by Jessica Bollinger (10:29.49) on January 31st at the Illinois Wesleyan University Titan Open.

Freshman Latrice Fletcher also competed for the Owls in the 3000 meter run on Friday evening. Fletcher finished third with a time of 11:04.76.

Sophomore Kristi Palmer finished fourth in a field of 11 runners in the mile run on Friday night. Palmer finished with a time of 5:19.33.

Sophomore Jessica Bollinger also competed in the mile run on Friday night for the Owls. Bollinger finished fifth on the heals of fellow Owl Palmer with a time of 5:20.99.

Palmer returned to the Hearnes Fieldhouse on Saturday to compete in the University of Missouri All-Comers Indoor Meet. Palmer won the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:35.35

The next scheduled meet for the Owls will be the NAIA National Indoor Championships on March 5th-7th, in Johnson City, Tenn. Bollinger, Held and Palmer have each qualified to compete in the 3000 meter run. Held and Bollinger have met the B standard in the 5000 meter run. Meeting the B standard does not earn the two Owls an automatic spot in the Championships. They will have to wait and see if their times will earn them a spot in the Indoor Championships.

Kristi PalmerPalmer Shines at Wildcat Invitational

(MARION, Ind., Feb. 14)--The William Woods University women's track team competed in the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcat Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore Kristi Palmer took home individual honors in the 3000 Meter Run.

Palmer was the only member of the indoor track team to compete at the Wildcat Invitational. She won the 3000 Meter Run with a time of 10:27.38. Her time met the NAIA Indoor qualifying standard. It was also a William Woods record and personal best.

The Owls will return to the track on February 20th. They will compete in the University of Central Missouri Classic in Warrensburg, Mo.

Cheryl HeldWomen's Track Competes at Mule Relays

(WARRENSBURG, Mo., Feb. 7)--The William Woods University women's track team competed in the University of Central Missouri Mule Relays in Warrensburg, Mo., this weekend.

Freshman Cheryl Held finished second in the 5000 meter run with a time of 18:29. Her time was three seconds off the NAIA Indoor qualifying time, a personal best, and a new William Woods record. Held finished six seconds out of first place in a field of 24.

Sophomore Jessica Bollinger also competed in the 5000 meter run for the Owls. Bollinger finished fourth with a time of 18:42.35. Her time met the NAIA National Qualifying B standard.

Sophomore Kristi Palmer finished third in the 3000 meter run. She finished 13 seconds out of first place in a field of 20 runners. Palmer finished the race with a time of 10:49.41.

Latrice Fletcher also competed for the Owls in the 3000 meter run. She finished 8th with a time of 11:16.05.

Jordan Locke competed in the 800 meter run for William Woods. Locke finished 11th out of 17 runners with a time of 2:37.45. She was four seconds out of finishing in the top 10.

The Owls will return to the track on February 14th. The team will compete at the Indiana Wesleyan University Indoor Meet in Marion, Ind.

Women's Indoor Track Season Begins

(NORMAL, Ill., Jan. 31)--The William Woods University women's track team opened the 2009 season at the Illinois Wesleyan University Titan Open on Saturday. The Owls finished 6th out of 12 teams.

Kristi Palmer, Latrice Fletcher, Jessica Bollinger, and Cheryl Held all competed for the Owls in its opening meet.

Sophomore Jessica Bollinger earned individual honors in her first meet of the season. Bollinger won the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:29.49. Her time met the NAIA National Qualifying A standard. Bollinger also broke a school record in the event. The record was held by Kristi Palmer (2008) with a time of 10:37.55.

Freshman Cheryl Held also earned individual honors at the Titan Open. Held finished second in the 3000 meter run. She finished with a time of 10:38.09. Her time met the NAIA National Qualifying B standard.

Sophomore Palmer competed in two events for William Woods. She finished 3rd in the Mile run. In a field of 26 runners, she finished with a time of 5:27.32. Palmer finished just under nine seconds out of first place. She also competed in the 800 meter run. She finished 9th in a field of 42. Palmer finished the race with a time of 2:32.29.

Freshman Fletcher also competed in two events for the Owls. She finished 8th in the 800 meter run. She finished the race with a time of 2:29.82. She finished just under four seconds out of the top five. She also competed in the Mile run. She finished the race with a time of 5:30.73.

The Owls will return to the track on February 6th and 7th. They will travel to the University of Central Missouri and compete in the Mule Relays.
