Tigers Top Owls
(MT. PLEASANT, Iowa, Oct. 17) - The William Woods University women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Iowa Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, William Woods falls to 1-10 on the season.
IWC (7-8-1) scored the first goal of the match in the 19th minute. Jennie Mitchell scored an unassisted goal to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
Sophomore Kristen Pelley (St. Peters, Mo.) tied the match in the 54th minute of play. The goal was Pelley's second of the season for William Woods.
IWC notched the game-winner in the 79th minute on a goal from Brittney Moss.
The Tigers outshot the Owls 10-7 for the match. IWC put five shots on goal, the Owls put four. Freshman Anna Hatfield (Desoto, Ill.) recorded three saves in the loss for William Woods.
William Woods will return to action on October 21st. The Owls will host American Midwest Conference foe Harris-Stowe State University at 7 pm at Firley Field. The women’s soccer team will participate in a “Pink-Out” soccer match against Harris-Stowe. The team has been collecting donations of $5 for Passionately Pink lapel buttons. A portion of the proceeds collected for this event will go to directly benefit our guest of honor for the night who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and is in the midst of her battle toward recovery. The remainder of the proceeds will be donated to the Komen Foundation of Columbia, Mo. In order to support this event please buy a button from a women’s soccer player, or contact Coach Randy Hall. We ask that you wear something pink to the match, and cheer on the Owls.
William Woods will also honor its senior class on Wednesday night.
