(FULTON, Mo., Sept. 18) - The William Woods University women's soccer team lost to visiting Park University on Saturday at Firley Field. The Pirates defeated the Owls 2-0 in the American Midwest Conference match-up.

 

Park entered the evening as the 13th ranked team in this week's NAIA Top 25. The Owls kept the Pirates in check during the first 45 minutes of play. The two teams went to halftime scoreless.

 

#13 Park scored in the 55th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Juneille Watkins shot attempt was thwarted by freshman goalie Anna Hatfield. Hatfield made a diving deflection which found its way to the foot of Watkins. Watkins sent a shot in from the left post to give the Pirates the lead.

 

Park added its final goal with under two minutes remaining in the match. With the Owls sending everyone forward, Ashley Maxwell scored to give Park the 2-0 victory.

 

Park recorded 19 shots, eight on goal, in the win. William Woods tallied five shots, one on goal, in the loss. Hatfield collected six saves in a losing effort.

 

The Owls have dropped two narrow defeats to nationally ranked teams in the last week. WWU falls to 1-5 on the year, and 0-2 in the AMC. Park improves to 4-0-1 on the season, and 1-0 in the AMC.

 

The schedule doesn't get any easier for William Woods. They travel to #12 McKendree University on Wednesday, September 23rd.
