(FULTON, Mo, Oct. 21) - The William Woods University women's soccer team defeated visiting Harris-Stowe State University on Wednesday night at Firley Field. The Owls won the American Midwest Conference match-up 8-0 on a night when they honored the 2009 senior class.

 

WWU scored seven goals in the first 45 minutes of play. The Owls received goals from Anne Weaver (St. Charles, Mo.), Kristen Phinney (Washington, Mo.), Kelsey Evans (Troy, Ill.), Lili Coleman (Tulsa, Okla.), Kristen Pelley (St. Peters, Mo.), Caty Newbold (Jefferson City, Mo.) and Melissa Roewe (O'Fallon, Ill.). Phinney, Roewe and Pelley also notched an assist apiece in the opening half.

 

The Owls added another goal in the 85th minute. Evans scored her second goal of the evening to conclude the scoring for the Owls.

 

WWU outshot HSSU 33-1 on the evening. The Owls put 14 shots on goal in the win.

 

Harris-Stowe falls to 0-14 on the year, 0-7 in the AMC. William Woods improves to 2-10, 1-4 in league play.

 

Wednesday was Senior Night at Firley Field. Prior to kick-off, head coach Randy hall paid tribute to Lili Coleman, Kelsey Evans, Bailey Jungmann, KayCee Pauley and Kristen Phinney.

 

The match was also part of the Owls "Pink-Out" campaign to help increase cancer awareness. The team collected donations for cancer research, wore pink uniforms and played the match using donated pink soccer balls. The balls were autographed, and raffled after the match.

 

The Owls will return to action on October 24th. William Woods will travel to AMC rival Missouri Baptist University. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 pm in St. Louis, Mo.
