(St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 4) - The William Woods University women's soccer team lost an overtime heartbreaker at NCAA Division II Maryville University, 2-1. The Owls have now lost two matches in overtime, and four matches by one goal.

 

Junior Kelsey Evans (Troy, Ill.) put the Owls on the board in the 8th minute. Evans scored an unassisted goal to give the Owls an early 1-0 lead. The Owls took the one-goal lead into the half.

 

Maryville tied the match in the 71st minute on a goal from Laura Jendusa. Jendusa scored on an assist from Mindy Tremmel.

 

Four minutes into the first overtime period, Lindsay Noble scored the golden goal on an assist from Jendusa to give MU the 2-1 victory.

 

WWU had 11 shots in the match, five on goal. MU had 19 shots on the evening, 10 on goal. Freshman Anna Hatfield (Desoto, Ill.) recorded eight saves in the loss for William Woods, including four on breakaways.

 

Maryville improves to 4-6-1 on the year. William Woods falls to 1-7 on the season. The Owls will return to action on October 6th. They will host American Midwest Conference rival Missouri Baptist at Firley Field. The Owls and Spartans will kick-off at 5 pm.
