Double OT Loss For Owls
(FAYETTE, Mo., Oct. 14) - The William Woods University women's soccer team dropped a double-overtime loss at Central Methodist University on Wednesday night. The loss marks the third overtime loss of the season for the Owls, and the second loss in double OT.
Neither team could find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of play on a cold rainy night in Fayette, Mo. The Owls and Eagles went into halftime scoreless.
CMU tallied the first goal of the night in the 47th minute of play. The Eagles scored on a goal from Natalie Rolph to take a 1-0 lead. Senior Kelsey Evans (Troy, Ill) tied the match in the 51st minute. Evans recorded her team-high third goal of the season.
Abby Anderson scored on an assist from Christine Ehrmann in the 61st minute to regain the lead for CMU. Not to be outdone, WWU junior Ashli Gray (Blue Springs, Mo.) scored in the 66th minute on an assist from Katie Klingemann (St. Louis, Mo.) to tie the game at two.
Neither team could score the winning goal in regulation. In the first overtime period, both teams had two shots, each goalie recorded a save, and the game went into the final overtime period.
In the 107th minute, Holly Jones scored on an assist from Rolph to give CMU the hard fought win.
The Owls outshot the Eagles 22-13 in the loss. WWU put 11 shots on goal to CMU's eight. Freshman goalie Anna Hatfield (Desoto, Ill.) recorded five saves in the loss for William Woods.
The Owls fall to 1-9 on the season. CMU improves to 6-5-1 on the year.
William Woods will return to the pitch on October 17th at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
