William Woods Wins at Millikin
(DECATUR, Ill., Oct. 16) - The William Woods University women's cross country team earned a victory at the H.W. Wright Classic at Millikin College on Friday. William Woods took the top three spots, and five of the top 10, to secure the win.
In her first race since returning from an injury, sophomore Cheryl Held (Wildwood, Mo.) earned an individual championship at the event. Held finished first out of 29 runners. She completed the event with a time of 25:37.15.
Junior Kristi Palmer (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) and freshman Amy Gangloff (Wellsville, Mo.) finished second, and third, respectively for the Owls. Palmer finished the 5k event in 25:50.45. Gangloff finished the course in 25:55.30.
Other William Woods runners included:
Sophomore Latrice Fletcher (Independence, Mo.) - 6th with a time of 26:56.55.
Junior Jessica Bollinger (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) - 8th with a time of 28:00.30.
"It was a great meet for us," said head coach Brayce Forsha. "We knew the conditions and course were not conducive to running fast, so we set a game plan to run together as long as possible and work on our pack running. I could not of asked for a better outcome. Everyone executed what we wanted to do to perfectly. It was a really fun meet to watch."
The Owls will return to action on October 24th. The Owls will compete in the Yellow Jacket Classic at Graceland University.
