Samantha Twellman Signs with William Woods Volleyball
(FULTON, Mo., March 18)--Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Mueller has announced the signing of Samantha Twellman to a William Woods University Letter of Intent to play for the Owls in 2009. Twellman comes to William Woods from Wright City High School in Wright City, Mo.
Twellman, a right-side hitter, earned three varsity letters at Wright City. She was a member of three district runner-up teams. Twellman was selected to the second team All-Conference and first team All-District her junior year. Her senior year, Twellman was named team captain, MVP, and MHSVCA Academic All-State.
"Samantha is a very good athlete," Wright City coach Jennifer Hollaway said. "She's a well-rounded volleyball player in every aspect. She's very consistent with placing the volleyball in the court where it needs to go, and she's a very dedicated player."
William Woods finished the 2008 season with a record of 19-16. The Owls finished third during the American Midwest Conference regular season, and lost in the quarterfinals of the AMC postseason tournament.

Volleyball All-Conference Announced
(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 14)--Three members of the William Woods University volleyball team received All-American Midwest Conference recognition. Jessica Deetz (Nixa, Mo.) and Lacey Olin (Pueblo, Colo.) have been named to the American Midwest Conference Volleyball First Team. Tinisha Donegan (St. Louis, Mo.) was named Honorable Mention All-AMC.
Deetz, a sophomore, from Nixa, Mo., recorded 202 kills as a right-side hitter for the Owls. She also collected 23 blocks during the 2008 season. Olin, a junior from Pueblo, Colo., recorded 295 kills as an outside hitter for the Owls. She also collected 33 blocks during the 2008 season.

Volleyball Falls in AMC Tournament
(FULTON, Mo., Nov. 11)--The William Woods University volleyball team lost 3-0 to visiting McKendree University in the quarterfinals of the American Midwest Conference post-season tournament on Tuesday night in Anderson Arena. The Owls lost 25-18, 29-27, and 26-24.
McKendree jumped out to an early lead in the first game and the Owls were never able to recover. Throughout the evening, the Owls had a difficult time slowing down the attacking play of Carrie Brickey, Dani Collins and Katelyn Kombrink.
The Owls and Bearcats battled each other over the course of the next two games. The Bearcats took the final two games 29-27 and 26-24.
Cali Simmons recorded a match-high 12 kills in the loss for William Woods. Jessica Deetz added 10 kills for the Owls. Katy Haulotte and Molly Dougherty had 20 and 19 assists for William Woods. Skye Wade added a team-high 10 digs for WWU.
McKendree improves to 18-16 on the season. They will play the winner of the Columbia College/Harris-Stowe State University match on November 13th.
William Woods University ends the 2008 season with a record of 19-16. The Owls, under first year coach Jennifer Mueller, rebounded from an 8-20 season in 2007. William Woods completes their first winning season since 2002 (20-11).

William Woods Ends Regular Season With Win
(FAYETTE, Mo., Nov. 3)--The William Woods University volleyball defeated host Central Methodist University 3-1 on Monday evening. The Owls defeated the Eagles 25-22, 25-14, 18-25, and 25-23. The Owls end the regular season 19-15. William Woods completes its first winning regular season since 2002 (20-11).
Cali Simmons (Shawnee, Kans.) collected a team-high 13 kills in the win for William Woods. Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Mo.) and Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 12 and 11 kills each in the win. Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) recorded 24 assists for the Owls. Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.) led WWU with 25 digs in the win.
The Owls won two of the three matches versus Central Methodist University this season.
William Woods will open the American Midwest Conference post-season tournament on Tuesday, November 11th. The Owls will host a first-round match against an opponent to be determined.

Volleyball Drops Final AMC Match
(COLUMBIA, Mo., Nov. 1)--The William Woods University volleyball team lost 3-0 at Columbia College on Saturday afternoon. The Owls dropped its final AMC match to the Cougars 25-17, 25-13, and 27-25.
Katy Haulotte (Sedalia, Mo.) had 10 assists in the loss for the Owls. Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded four kills for William Woods. Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.) added four digs in the loss for the Owls.
William Woods falls to 18-15 on the season, and 10-6 in the AMC.
William Woods will return to action on Monday, November 3rd. The Owls will travel to Central Methodist University for its final regular season match. The Owls and Eagles have split their previous two meetings.

Volleyball Splits at Williams Baptist Tri-Match
(WALNUT RIDGE, Ark., Oct. 28)--The William Woods University volleyball team lost 3-0 at American Midwest Conference rival Williams Baptist College Tuesday afternoon. The Owls lost 22-25, 23-25, and 17-25. In the second match of the day, the Owls rebounded from the loss and defeated Hendrix College 3-0 (25-20, 25-19, and 25-11).
The loss to Williams Baptist drops WWU into third place in the AMC. The Owls (10-4) trail Columbia College (14-0) and Missouri Baptist University (11-4) in the standings. The loss to WBC snapped a five-match winning streak for the Owls.
The Owls are now 18-13 on the season. They will return to action on October 30th. They will travel to Missouri Baptist University for a 7:00 pm, American Midwest Conference match.

Volleyball Wins Two
(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 25)--The William Woods University volleyball team won two matches on Saturday afternoon in Anderson Arena. The Owls earned two American Midwest Conference victories by defeating the University of Illinois-Springfield 3-2, and Stephens College 3-0.
The Owls defeated the University of Illinois-Springfield 22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 22-25, and 15-13 in the noon match on Saturday. Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.), Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Tex.), Cali Simmons (Shawnee, Kans.), and Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded 10 kills each in the win for WWU. Wade also collected a team-high 19 digs in the victory. Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) added 26 assists for the Owls.
The win avenged an earlier loss to UIS. The Prairie Stars defeated William Woods 26-28, 18-25, and 26-28 on September 27th, in Springfield, Illinois.
William Woods defeated Stephens College 25-10, 25-12, and 25-14 in the final match of the day. Olin and Fleming recorded 12 kills each for William Woods. Spirit Stevens (Monett, Mo.) collected 10 digs in the win for WWU. Dougherty added 18 assists in the victory.
With the win, William Woods completes a two-match sweep of Stephens College with the victory on Saturday.
William Woods improves to 17-12 on the season, and 10-3 in the AMC. The Owls are now in second place in the AMC with three matches remaining. They will return to action on Tuesday, October 28th, at Williams Baptist College. The Owls will play Williams Baptist at 3:30 pm in an AMC match, and Hendrix College at 5:30 pm in a non-conference match-up.

Volleyball Earns Important AMC Victory
(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 24)--The William Woods University volleyball team defeated visiting McKendree University 3-1 in Anderson Arena on Friday evening. The Owls won the American Midwest Conference match 25-22, 30-32, 25-19, and 25-20.
William Woods entered the match on a roll. The Owls had won nine of their last 11 matches entering the contest on Friday evening. However, McKendree University defeated William Woods in their previous match on September 26th, in Lebanon, Illinois, 3-0 by scores of 25-16, 25-22, and 25-20. Both teams entered the night battling for third place in the AMC.
The Owls took the opening set behind strong defensive play from sophomore Tinisha Donegan (St. Louis, Mo.). Donegan controlled the net with several blocks that forced McKendree to change their offensive approach. The Owls held off the Bearcats down the stretch to take the opening set 25-22.
The second set was an "Instant Classic". Neither team gave an inch throughout the set. The Owls and Bearcats countered each other with a series of long rallies. With the set tied 30-30, McKendree was able to force a side-out, then counter with a tip over the blocking efforts of Donegan and Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) en route to the 32-30 victory.
The Owls fell behind early in the third set. McKendree raced out to a 5-0 lead. Following a William Woods timeout, the Owls countered by winning six of the next seven points to even the match. William Woods would receive strong attacking play from Olin and Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Tex.) to pull away from the Bearcats, and win 25-19.
William Woods continued to frustrate the Bearcat offense with a strong blocking effort in the fourth set. Donegan again showed her dominance at the net, and Fleming, Olin, and Cali Simmons (Shawnee, Kans.) continued to collect kills for the Owls. William Woods received a kill from Sky Wade (Licking, Mo.) to finish off the Bearcats 25-20.
Coach Jennifer Mueller was pleased with the victory on Friday. "I think that's probably, by far, the best that we've played in quite some time". Mueller added, "We had a spell where we played really well these past couple weeks. But, this was by far the most consistent, all the way through the match, that we have played." Mueller was also pleased with the efforts of Donegan; "She has an amazing wingspan. She does a really good job of sticking with her middle and reading where the set is going to go."
Donegan recorded three solo blocks and four blocking assists in the victory for the Owls. Olin and Fleming added 13 and 10 kills apiece for WWU in the win. Wade collected a team-high nine digs for William Woods. Katy Haulotte (Sedalia, Mo.) and Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) added 13 and 10 assists for the Owls.
William Woods improves to 15-12 overall, and 8-3 in the AMC. McKendree falls to 14-14 overall, and 8-5 in the AMC.
William Woods is now alone in third place in the AMC with five conference matches remaining. The last time the Owls accumulated 15 wins was during the 2003 season (15-22). The Owls have not won this many AMC matches since 2001 (8-4).
The Owls will return to action on Saturday, October 24th. They will host the University of Illinois-Springfield, and Stephens College, in an AMC tri-match in Anderson Arena.

Volleyball Sweeps Hannibal-LaGrange College
(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 22)--The William Woods University volleyball team defeated visiting Hannibal-LaGrange College 3-0 in Anderson Arena on Wednesday evening. The Owls won the American Midwest Conference match 25-21, 25-21, and 25-23. The Owls are now 14-12 overall, and 7-3 in the AMC. Hannibal-LaGrange College falls to 12-17 on the season, and 5-9 in the AMC.
It was a tightly contested match from start to finish. The Owls and Trojans battled back and forth in the opening set until Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) fired a kill between two HLC blockers to give the Owls a 21-20 lead. The Owls would extend their lead, and eventually take the opening set 25-21.
A cross-court kill by Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.) gave the Owls a 19-18 lead in the second set. William Woods would win every long rally en route to a 25-21 victory in the second set.
The Owls took a late lead in the third set, and looked as though they would win going away. However, Hannibal-LaGrange rallied to tie the match at 21, and then take a 22-21 advantage. William Woods took the next three points on kills from Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Tex.) and Olin. With a 24-23 lead, Olin finished the match with kill off the arms of two Trojans.
Wade collected a team-high 10 kills in the win. Olin added nine kills for WWU. Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) and Katy Haulotte (Sedalia, Mo.) recorded 17 and 15 assists apiece for WWU. Wade also had a team-high 11 digs in the victory.
WWU has now won nine of its last 11 matches. The win concludes a two-match sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange. The Owls defeated the Trojans 3-0 in Hannibal, Mo., on September 23rd.
The Owls currently sit in third place in the AMC behind Columbia College (12-0) and Missouri Baptist University (11-3). They will host AMC rival McKendree University on Friday, October 24th, at 6:00 pm, in Anderson Arena. The Owls will then host AMC opponents the University of Illinois-Springfield and Stephens College on Saturday, October 25th.

Volleyball Earns Split
(LIBERTY, Mo., Oct. 18)--The William Woods University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon at the William Jewel College Quad Tournament. The Owls lost to Baker University 1-3, and defeated host William Jewell 3-1.
The Owls could never seem to get on track in the 11:00 am match versus Baker University. Baker took the match 18-25, 25-15, 17-25, 20-25.
In the first set, William Woods held a 14-12 advantage. Baker rallied to tie the set at 15, then won ten of the next 14 points en route to the opening set victory.
The Owls jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second set. Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.), and Jessica Deetz (Nixa, Mo.) controlled the net for the Owls. Olin and Deetz connected on four consecutive kills down the stretch to give the Owls a 25-15 win.
William Woods had a difficult time slowing down the front line of Baker in the third and fourth set. BU would control the net, and earn the victory.
Wade led the Owls with 16 kills and 16 digs in the loss. Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) recorded 23 assists for William Woods.
After a short break, the Owls took the court against host William Jewell College. Neither team could get the upper hand in the first set. The two teams worked the score to an 18-18 tie before WJC collected three consecutive points. The Cardinals would eventually win the set 25-21.
The two teams continued to battle each other in the second set. The score alternated back-and-forth from 15-15 to 25-25. Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Mo.) scored a cross-court kill off an assist from Molly Dougherty to give the Owls a 26-25 lead. Rodriguez then ended the set with a heads-up push pass to an empty back corner to get the Owls back in the match.
The momentum carried over for William Woods as they won the next two sets 25-19 and 25-15.
Olin led the Owls with 16 kills in the win. Dougherty recorded 29 assists for WWU. Tina Perry (Willard, Mo.) and Cali Simmons (Shawnee, Kans.) led the Owls with 12 digs each.
William Woods (13-12) will return to action on Wednesday, October 22nd. The Owls will host American Midwest Conference foe Hannibal-LaGrange College at 7:00 pm.

William Woods Wins in Five
(LIBERTY, Mo., Oct. 17)--The William Woods University volleyball team played its second consecutive five-set match on Friday evening in the opening round of the William Jewell College Tournament. The Owls defeated Kansas Wesleyan University 3-2. The Owls, coming off a five-set loss to American Midwest Conference rival Columbia College on Tuesday, defeated KWU 25-15, 20-25, 25-15, 23-25, and 15-13.
The Owls opened the first set by taking an early 6-1 lead on the jump-serving of Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.). Cali Simmons (Shawnee, Kans.) recorded back-to-back kills to increase the lead the 8-2. Kansas Wesleyan rallied to close the gap to 11-10. The Owls took a timeout and scored five straight points to expand their lead. Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Tex.) took a set from Katy Haulotte (Sedalia, Mo.) and pounded a kill between two Coyote blockers to finish the first set.
The second set remained tight as both teams fought their way to a 10-10 tie. Kansas Wesleyan won the next seven points to take the lead. Jessica Deetz (Nixa, Mo.) and Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) combined to rally the Owl offense. Each took turns recording several kills to close the gap to 16-18. The Owls could never even the set, and would eventually fall 20-25.
The Owls took complete control of the third set early. William Woods raced out to a 9-1 lead. The Owls were led by strong blocking from Tinisha Donegan (St. Louis, Mo.) Deetz would close the set with a cross-court kill to give the Owls a 2-1 advantage.
As was the case in the second set, WWU and KWU battled to a 16-16 tie in the fourth set. Kansas Wesleyan tallied the next four points and would not relinquish the lead. KWU sent the match to a deciding fifth set with a 25-23 victory.
It was either teams match to win in the final set. WWU took a 2-1 lead on a block from Donegan and Simmons. Simmons followed the blocking assist with a kill to give the Owls the early lead. The two teams exchanged rallies as the set became locked in a 7-7 tie. Fleming and Olin combined on a block to give the Owls another lead. William Woods rode the hot hand of Olin for the next to points. Olin took a pair of sets from Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) and blasted two kills past the KWU defense. Then, just when it looked like the match was in hand, Kansas Wesleyan rallied again. KWU would even the match at eleven.
There is an old saying in sports that defense wins championships. Tinisha Donegan made her presence felt at the net down the stretch. Donegan attacked the net on a 50-50 ball and sent it to the floor over two Coyote players. The winner gave the Owls a 12-11 lead. Simmons recorded back-to-back kills to increase the lead to 14-11. KWU attempted one final rally, but it would fall short, and the Owls went on to win the final set 15-13.
William Woods improves to 12-11 on the season. They will return to action on Saturday, October 18th. The Owls will play Baker University at 11:00 am, followed by a 1:30 pm contest with host William Jewell College.

Owls Take #6 Columbia College to the Wire
(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 14)--The William Woods University volleyball dropped an American Midwest Conference match to #6 Columbia College 2-3 on Tuesday evening in Anderson Arena. The Owls lost 25-21, 9-25, 16-25, 26-24, and 6-15.
The Owls came out aggressive in the opening set. Behind strong attacks from Jessica Deetz (Nixa, Mo.) and Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Tex.), the Owls took the opening set 25-21.
Following the opening set loss, the Cougars took command of the match winning the second set 25-9, and the third set 25-16. The Owls could not slow down junior outside hitter Flavia Lino. Lino was able to dominate the net, finding space around every Owl blocking attempt.
William Woods took the lead early in the fourth set. The Owls and Cougars battled back-and-fourth, and William Woods was able to defeat Columbia 26-24 to send the match to a deciding fifth set.
Columbia jumped in front 8-0 in the fifth set. William Woods rallied late, but fell 6-15.
Lino led the Cougars with 17 kills on the evening. Maria Omondi added 11 kills and seven blocks in the win for CC. The Cougars improve to 23-2 on the season, and 11-0 in the AMC.
Deetz led the Owls with 12 kills in the loss. Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.) recorded 16 assists for the Owls. Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) added 13 digs for the William Woods. Tinisha Donegan (St. Louis, Mo.) led the WWU blocking attack with five solo blocks and three blocking assists.
The Owls (11-11, 6-3) will return to the court on Friday and Saturday, October 17th and 18th. They will travel to Liberty, Missouri, and compete in the William Jewell University Tournament. The Owls will play Kansas Wesleyan at 8:00 pm on Friday. They will challenge Baker University at 11:00 am, and William Jewell at 1:30 pm on Saturday.

(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 10)--The William Woods University volleyball team defeated visiting Williams Baptist College 3-0 in Anderson Arena on Friday evening. The Owls won the American Midwest Conference match 25-21, 25-18, and 25-17.
Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded 13 kills in the win for William Woods. Brianna Rodriguez (Camdenton, Mo.) added 11 kills for the Owls. Kristina Perry (Willard, Mo.) and Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Neb.) had 18 and 17 assists apiece. Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.) led the Owls with 12 digs.
Williams Baptist falls to 12-4 overall, and 1-3 in the AMC. William Woods University improves to 11-10 overall, and 6-2 in the AMC. The Owls have now won six consecutive matches. They will return to action on Tuesday, October 14th. They will host Columbia College. Columbia is currently 22-2 overall, and 10-0 in the AMC. The Owls are two games back in the AMC standings.

Owls Topple Harris-Stowe
(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Oct. 7)--The William Woods University volleyball team earned an important American Midwest Conference victory over Harris-Stowe State University on Tuesday evening. The Owls defeated the Hornets 3-0 and swept the two-game series with Harris-Stowe.
William Woods got stronger as the match went on. The Owls swept the Hornets 25-22, 25-19, and 25-8. The Owls have now won five consecutive matches, and eight of the last eleven contests.
WWU improves to 10-10 on the season, and 5-2 in the American Midwest Conference. The Owls are tied for third with the University of Illinois-Springfield in the AMC behind Columbia College (7-0), and Missouri Baptist University (6-1).

William Woods will return to action on October 10th. The Owls will host Williams Baptist College in Anderson Arena at 7:00 pm.

Deetz Named AMC Player of the Week - Release provided by the American Midwest Conference
(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 6)--Jessica Deetz from William Woods University is the Oct. 6 honoree as the American Midwest Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. Deetz was honored for her performance in matches from Sept. 29-Oct. 4.
Deetz, a sophomore right-side hitter from Nixa, Mo., was a big factor in helping the Owls to a perfect 3-0 record last week. In the three matches, Deetz registered 34 kills, averaging 3.09 kills per set. Deetz had a hitting percentage of .403 in those contests. In addition, Deetz had eight digs, two blocks and two assists.
In William Woods' 3-2 match victory against Central Methodist University, Deetz notched 17 kills, which was her high for the week. She also recorded seven attacks in the Owls' AMC sweep of Missouri Baptist University.

Volleyball Wins Two
(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 4)--The William Woods University volleyball team defeated Westminster College (Mo.) and Central Methodist University at Westminster College this afternoon. The Owls defeated Westminster 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-19). The Owls then defeated Central Methodist 3-2 (25-20, 22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 16-14).
The Owls had little trouble with Westminster College in the opening match of the day. Kayla Fraguela and Lacey Olin had a team-high eight kills. Skye Wade recorded 18 assists in the victory. Lindsey Giampietri collected nine digs for the Owls.
William Woods earned a hard fought win in the second match of the day. Jessica Deetz led the Owls with 17 kills. Lacey Olin and Cali Simmons added 13 and 11 kills respectively. Molly Dougherty recorded 31 assists in the win.
William Woods improves to 9-10 on the season. They will return to action on October 7th. They will travel to American Midwest Conference foe Harris-Stowe State University.

Volleyball Defeats Iowa Wesleyan
(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 2)--The William Woods University volleyball team defeated visiting Iowa Wesleyan College 3-0 on Thursday evening in Anderson Arena. The Owls improve to 7-10 on the season.
The Owls won the first set 25-15 behind strong front line attacks. The Owls were able to hit around every block attempt in the opener. Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Tex.) recorded five kills apiece in the opening set win.
The Owls and Tigers went back-and-forth in the second set. William Woods took a 12-9 lead on a kill from Jessica Deetz (Nixa, Mo.). The Owls then ran off six consecutive points. William Woods improved their lead to 19-11 on a kill from Olin off a perfect pass from Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.). WWU would finish off IWC 25-15 on a kill from Tinisha Dougherty (St. Louis, Mo.).
It looked like the Owls would run away with the third set. William Woods raced out to a 10-1 lead. The Tigers would fight back and close the set to 20-24. Emily Edens (Ozark, Mo.) finished the set, and the match, on a cross court kill.
Unofficial stats list the Owls with 45 kills on the evening. The Owls were led by Deetz and Fleming with 11 each. Molly Dougherty collected all 24 assists in the win for William Woods. Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.) led the Owls with 22 digs.
William Woods (7-10) will return to action on Saturday, October 4th. They will play a tri-match at Westminster College (Mo.). The Owls will play Westminster at 2:00 pm, and Central Methodist University at 4:00 pm.

Volleyball Rolls Past Missouri Baptist
(FULTON, Mo., Sept. 30)--The William Woods University volleyball team was dominating in a 3-0 victory over visiting Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday evening in Anderson Arena. The Owls toppled the Spartans 25-16, 25-22 and 25-15.
Serving and blocking was the key to victory for the Owls. Skye Wade (Licking, Mo.) recorded four service aces in the win, and the Owls were able to muster several scoring rallies off her jump serve throughout the match. The Owls used a six-point rally to regain the lead in the second set, and another seven-point rally to put the Spartans away in the third set.
William Woods was able to take away the attacking line of Missouri Baptist throughout the evening. The front line of Tinisha Donegan (St. Louis, Mo.), Jessica Deetz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Lauren Fleming (Granbury, Tex.), slowed down the Spartan offense. Donegan recorded four solo blocks, and one blocking assist. Fleming recorded two solo blocks and one blocking assist. The unofficial stats have the Owls with 20 digs (eight by Kristina Perry (Willard, Mo.)), nine solo blocks, and five blocking assists.
Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) recorded 14 assists. Katy Haulotte (Sedalia, Mo.) added nine assists in the victory.
The Owls were also aggressive on the offensive side of the net. Lacey Olin (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded 10 kills for the Owls. Cali Simmons (Shawnee, Kans.) and Deetz added nine and six kills respectively.
Missouri Baptist entered the match with a perfect 5-0 record in the American Midwest Conference. The Spartans fall to 9-7 overall, and 5-1 in the AMC. William Woods improves to 6-10 overall, and 4-2 in the AMC. The Owls will return to action on Thursday, October 2nd, versus Iowa Wesleyan College.

Owls Drop Both Ends of Tri-Match
(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 26)--The William Woods University volleyball team dropped two matches at McKendree University on Friday evening. The Owls lost 0-3 to AMC foe McKendree, and 1-3 to Central Methodist University.
William Woods had their three-match winning streak snapped in its first match at McKendree University on Friday. The Owls lost 16-25, 22-25 and 20-25 to the Bearcats. William Woods falls to 3-1 in the American Midwest Conference.
The Owls dropped its second match of the day to Central Methodist University. The Eagles defeated the Owls 18-25, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-16. William Woods is now 5-9 on the season. William Woods will return to action on Saturday, September 27th, at AMC rival University of Illinois-Springfield.

Owls Extend Winning Streak to Three
(HANNIBAL, Mo., Sept. 23)--The William Woods University volleyball team recorded its third consecutive victory at Hannibal-LaGrange College on Tuesday night. The Owls won 3-0.
William Woods defeated the Trojans 25-20, 25-17, and 25-21 to improve to 5-7 overall, and 3-0 in the American Midwest Conference. The Owls have now collected back-to-back-to-back 3-0 AMC victories (Harris-Stowe State University, Stephens College, and Hannibal-LaGrange College).
Jessica Deetz recorded eight kills in the victory for William Woods. Deetz also collected a solo block and two assists blocks. Skye Wade and Cali Simmons recorded 15, and 12, digs respectively. Molly Dougherty and Katy Haulotte had 16, and 13, assists apiece.
William Woods will put their winning streak on the line Saturday, September 26th. The Owls will travel to Lebanon, Illinois, for a Tri-Match. William Woods will battle AMC foe McKendree University at 3:00 pm. The Owls will then challenge Central Methodist University at 5:00 pm.

JV Falls to State Fair Community College
(FULTON, Mo., Sept. 22)--The William Woods University junior varsity team lost 1-3 to State Fair Community College on Monday evening. The Owls lost 11-25, 25-20, 19-25, and 10-25.
Spirit Stevens recorded four serving aces and 10 digs in the loss. Sarah Scheets led the team with 11 digs. Tinisha Donegan recorded six kills and four assist blocks. Kayla Fraguela recorded five kills, one solo block and two assist blocks. Devin Bain collected 11 assists in the loss.
The junior varsity squad will return to the court on September 30th. They will host Missouri Baptist University junior varsity at 5:00 pm in Anderson Arena.

Volleyball Defeats Stephens
(COLUMBIA, Mo., Sept. 18)--The William Woods University volleyball team defeated Stephens College 3-0 in an American Midwest Conference match on Thursday evening.
The Owls defeated the Stars 25-20, 25-17, 25-13. William Woods collected its second consecutive win in the 3-0 victory over Stephens College.
Brianna Rodriguez recorded 12 kills in the win for William Woods. Jessica Deetz added seven kills, and Emily Edens and Lacey Olin added six for the Owls. Katy Haulotte led the way with 25 assists for the match. Molly Dougherty added 10 assists in the win.
William Woods improves to 4-7 overall, and 2-0 in the AMC. They will return to the court on Tuesday, September 25th. The Owls will travel to AMC foe Hannibal-LaGrange College. The match will begin at 7:00 pm.

Volleyball Wins AMC Opener
(FULTON, Mo., Sept. 16)--The William Woods University volleyball team defeated visiting Harris-Stowe State University 3-0 on Tuesday evening in the Anderson Arena, located in the Helen Stephens Sports Complex. The Owls won 25-17, 25-22, and 25-14.
William Woods entered American Midwest Conference play coming off four consecutive losses at the Evangel University Tournament over the weekend. After falling behind early in the first set, William Woods received three serving aces from Kristina Perry to take a 9-8 lead. Following a Harris-Stowe point, the Owls scored three straight points to take a 12-9 lead. The Owls received strong front-line play from Lauren Fleming and Jessica Deetz during an eight point rally, and expanding their lead. The first set ended on a service ace from Skye Wade.
The second set saw a lot of back-and-forth play from both teams. With the set tied at 13, William Woods won the next three points to take a 16-13 advantage. Harris-Stowe would rally and take a 17-16 lead. After an Owls time-out, Fleming took a set from Katy Haulotte and fired it to the floor to tie the set at 17. Harris-Stowe and William Woods exchanged points until the set was tied at 22. Another kill from Fleming, followed by a kill from Deetz, and the Owls were poised to finish off the Hornets. Molly Dougherty recorded a service ace, and HSSU mishandled the next rally to bring the second set to a conclusion.
William Woods began to pull away from the Hornets in the third set on three consecutive jump-service aces from Lacey Olin. Later, the Owls would add another three-point rally behind the serving of Perry. The Owls continued to pressure the Hornets up front. Fleming and Emily Edens were very active both attacking and blocking for William Woods. The Owls were able to pull away and collect their first AMC victory of the season.
William Woods improves to 3-7 overall, and 1-0 in the AMC. Harris-Stowe falls to 1-5 overall, and 1-1 in the AMC.
William Woods will return to action on Thursday, September 18th, at Stephens College. The AMC match will begin at 7:00 pm in Columbia, Missouri.

(SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Sept. 13)--The William Woods University volleyball team dropped two matches at the Evangel University Tournament on Saturday.
William Woods lost its opener 3-0 to Southern Nazarene University. The Owls lost 14-25, 25-27, and 23-25.
William Woods lost its final match of the tournament to the University of St. Mary. The Owls lost 25-27, 25-12, 22-25, and 23-25.
The Owls were very competitive in their four loses this weekend. William Woods falls to 2-7 on the season. The Owls will open AMC play on Tuesday, September 16th, when they host Harris-Stowe State University at 7:00 pm in Anderson Arena, in the Helen Stephens Sports Complex.

Volleyball Drops Two at Evangel University Tournament
(SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Sept. 12)--The William Woods University volleyball team dropped two matches on the opening day of the Evangel University Invitational Tournament.
William Woods lost its opener 3-0 to John Brown University. JBU won 25-17, 25-20, 25-15.
The Owls lost a five-set heartbreaker to Evangel University in its final match of the evening. Evangel won the match 21-25, 25-19, 17-25, 25-8, and 15-13.
William Woods falls to 2-5 on the season. They will play Southern Nazarene University and the University of St. Mary on Saturday in the final day of the tournament.

Volleyball Defeats Avila University
(FULTON, Mo., Sept. 10)--The William Woods University Volleyball team defeated visiting Avila University 3-0 on Wednesday evening. The Owls won 25-14, 25-21, and 25-18.
William Woods University improves to 2-3 on the season. Avila University falls to 1-9 on the season. The volleyball match also marked the first athletic event held in newly named Anderson Arena in the Helen Stephens Sports Complex.
Cali Simmons (Shawnee, Kan.) led the attack for William Woods. Simmons collected 12 kills in the victory. She also had 11 digs and two blocks.
Molly Dougherty (Omaha, Nebr.) and Katy Haulotte (Sedalia, Mo.) recorded 14 and 16 assists respectively. Tina Perry (Willard, Mo.) added 10 digs in the win.
William Woods will return to action on Friday and Saturday, September 12th and 13th, at the Evangel University Tournament in Springfield, Missouri. The Owls will play John Brown University and Evangel University on Friday, and Southern Nazarene University and the University of St. Mary on Saturday.

The William Woods University Volleyball team dropped two matches at the College of the Ozarks Tournament today. The Owls lost the opener to Bethel College (KS) 24-26, 25-15, 15-25, 25-15 and 14-16. The Owls lost the second match to the College of the Ozarks 14-25, 25-21, 13-25, and 20-25.
William Woods is now 1-3 on the season. They will return to action on Wednesday, September 10th, versus Avila University.

Volleyball Earns Split in Opener
(POINT LOOKOUT, Mo., September 5th, 2008)
The William Woods University Volleyball team earned a split in its 2008 opener. The Owls defeated Tabor University 3-1 in its first match. The Owls lost to Union University in the second match on day one of the College of the Ozarks Tournament.
The Owls defeated Tabor University 25-22, 23-25, 25-18, and 25-20 in the 1:00 match. The Owls lost to Union University (TN) 20-25, 17-25, 26-24, and 18-25 in the 3:00 match.
The Owls are 1-1 on the season and will play Bethel College (KS) at 3:00 pm, and the College of the Ozarks at 7:00 pm on Saturday.
