Volleyball Set to Open 2009 Season

(FULTON, Mo., Aug. 28) - The William Woods University volleyball team will open the 2009 season on Wednesday, September 2nd. The Owls will host Central Methodist University and Westminster College in a Tri-Match in Anderson Arena. WWU will play Central Methodist at 4 pm, and Westminster at 8 pm.

William Woods is coming off a 19-16 2008 season. The Owls finished fourth in the American Midwest Conference, and lost in the first round of the AMC postseason tournament to McKendree University 0-3. WWU achieved its first winning season since 2002.

William Woods returns six starters from the 2008 season, including junior Jessica Deetz and senior Lacey Olin. Deetz and Olin were First Team All-AMC selections last season.

Five opponents on this year's schedule are either ranked, or receiving votes, in the NAIA Preseason Top 25 (Complete Poll). AMC rival Columbia College is ranked 6th in the preseason poll. College of the Ozarks, Wayland Baptist University, John Brown University and AMC foe Missouri Baptist University are among others receiving votes.

The Owls open AMC play on September 8th at Harris-Stowe State University.
